In my latest article from Curatti I provide insights into how to build a blog that readers will flock to.

How my Curatti blog became a curation hub.

Generate Content That Gets Read

When it comes to blogging you need to stand out from the crowd with original topics. This means your posts need to be fresh and original, and speak to your audience.

I explain how to effectively reach your readers based on the interests of your readers.

Here's a few main points to consider:

  • You’re led either by your own quest for knowledge or by what keeps you up at night. Maybe you just want out of the rat race and are following a passion? If any of these apply to you, be very open to all of the signals you are receiving.

  • You either need to build an audience and following organically, over a long period of time, or you have to pay more than ever to reach lots of eyeballs.

  • If you have a very clear idea of the product or service you want to sell, have done your competitive analysis and seen an opening for your niche, gear your entire content strategy towards gaining the trust of your target customer base.

Why There Are Less Comments On Your Blog

I selected this article from Curatti written by Alice Elliott because she explains why your blog posts are seeing a decline in comments.

Learn why your articles are not getting as much feedback as they did a few years ago.

Why Blog Comments are on the Decline

It can be difficult for any blogger to see a lack of response after working hard on a blog post. I agree that in order to attract comments you need to evaluate how your blog is being perceived.

Elliott explains the reasons why blogs are not experiencing the same amount of comments that they once did.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • First, take a look at your topics and find out whether these are actually what your audience wants to read. Second, is your content a conversational style? If not, it may need to be tweaked.

  • Don't avoid a subject that is serious in nature -- you might be losing readers because of it. Write what your subscribers are looking for instead of playing it safe.

  • Put both personality and passion into your content. Reveal more about yourself personally, and back up what you say with facts.

As a business recognition is like gold when it comes to building an audience. I agree that publishing a news announcement can enhance your brand promotion efforts.

Gilbert goes over how to successfully write and publish a press release that gets noticed.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Before writing decide what the focus or subject matter will be. This could be a product announcement, event, contest, ect.

  • Craft a headline that is eye-catching and newsworthy. Come up with several different ideas to choose from before making a final selection.

  • The introduction is the most important part of your press release. It should explain who, what when, where, and why along with a summary of what the article is about.

  • Writing great content is the first step to attracting attention to your blog. This is a direct reflection of who you are -- the higher the quality the better chances of your articles going viral.

Via janlgordon
janlgordon's curator insight, February 3, 2017 7:51 PM

In our latest Curatti interview, Ana Hoffman’s path to marketing success was not a typical one. You will have to ask her why she moved from modeling into blogging. Once she made the switch, and with the usual trial and error, she became a leading traffic generation expert (expert is my word, not hers!).

She happily borrows from the old saying:

"My overnight success took me 10 years to build”

She added, though: “I made all the same mistakes as everyone else”.

Traffic Generation Café is her second blog. While working on her first, she realized that it’s not only about content creation, but also where the audience is coming from.

Traffic Generation Café came from this, using the lessons from the first effort.

Not a Natural Born Writer

Surprise! Ana used to hate writing, and admits it doesn’t come naturally to her.

The reason is really simple, and she found it easy to overcome.

At the time she broke into blogging, the prevailing style was ‘over-writing’. Using flowery wording, people would add language beyond what was needed in order to get the point across. And being that Ana thinks in a more bulleted manner, this was difficult for her. She basically had to be someone other than herself in order to write.

She encourages people to shed their online personas when writing, as she shed hers. And always write to your niche! In all likelihood, you will write to your audience anyway, as your mindset is geared towards that niche. So, write as you speak. Simply, write whatever comes out of you, then edit down from there. Keep the words you need to get your point across and maintain the attention of your readers. It’s the opposite of over-writing!

Boomerang Marketing

The real point of this interview was for Ana to introduce people to her Boomerang Marketing system. It revolves around layers of content repurposing, with, in Ana’s case, an emphasis on Slideshare.

Her system is a great traffic generator. I’m not going to tell you everything that was discussed, because then you wouldn’t need to watch/listen to the video!

The interview is very vibrant and fast moving.

I selected this article from Curatti written by Niraj Ranjan because it covers how to best approach your prospects.

Some phrases are outdated and inappropriate for business emails.

How to Communicate With Your Subscribers

It just takes a few words to lose the attention of a potential customer. I agree that in order to have more sales you should write your message in a way that is appealing and does not have a direct sales pitch.

Ranjan explains several phrases that do not work well for business emails.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • An overused cliche is, "Don't hesitate to contact me." It is not only over polite, but also sounds too phony. People are already aware that they can approach your business for further clarification on information.

  • Avoid filler phrases such as, "I hope you're well." These are hollow statements without true meaning or emotion. Instead keep the introduction light, and get straight to the point.

  • If your prospect asks a question responding with, "I don't know" is unprofessional. This gives the reader the wrong impression -- instead offer an answer that allows you to get back to them with the right information that they are looking for.

I selected this article from Curatti written by Mark Preston because it provides insight into how to go beyond re-hashed content and publish original articles.

Why re-publishing methods only improve your website rankings.

Publish Less With More Substance

Each article you publish affects your brand image. I agree that your posts should be less frequent with more substance in order to grow your audience.

Preston explains what options are available to publishing more meaningful blog posts.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • A topic that has been published many times over is referred to as re-hashed content. This does more harm than good with less backlinks and interactions.

  • Being unique to your brand will help your posts get noticed. Stay true to your message -- this opens the doors to higher profile guest blogging opportunities.

  • Make sure your content is far better than what the competition is publishing. Write something that offers something of value that other's don't.

I selected this article from Curatti written by Andy Capaloff because it provides insight into how to create effective content as a guest blogger.

Why content marketing is really about establishing trust and leadership in your niche.

Publishing With Originality and Intent

Each article you publish should reflect your brand and help your readers. I agree that your posts should not be just about repurposing old content but instead offering a fresh perspective people will want to read.

Capaloff explains how to best approach your content marketing strategy for guest blogging opportunities.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • It's important to know who your audience is before crafting your content. Add something original instead of just a sales message or promotion.

  • Go beyond writing in just one style. Longer articles are great, but substance should count more. Avoid using fillers just to add more words.

  • Research first whether your topic has already been covered on other blogs. This will help you gauge the level of interest and who is writing about that topic.

I selected this article from Curatti written by Karen Dikson because it provides insights on how to to avoid costly copywriting mistakes.

In order for your brand to attract more readers you need to provide high-quality content.

Common Copywriting Errors

Your message should draw in your audience. I agree that you can reach more people by writing more effectively in a simple, concise manner.

Dikson explains the common mistakes content marketers make and how to fix them.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Choose a single-column layout for better reading flow. In addition to sub-headlines make sure your paragraphs naturally move into the next one.

  • Before you start writing have a specific goal in place. Go beyond just clever copy and provide something that is creative and fresh.

  • If you're going to use a bold claim you need to back it up with facts. This builds trust with potential customers as well as a good brand reputation.
