The debate if you should use www or not in your domain name have been going on for 20 years or so. And it actually does matter if you use www or not.

Since the origin, “example.com”, and the hostname, “www.example.com” can point to different IP-addresses – and since January 1997 to different web sites on the same IP-address – people knowledgeable of SEO started telling us that we had to choose a canonical hostname and that the other should point there (with a HTTP 301 response code). Also, it kind of made sense to choose one. But which one? For SEO it really doesn’t matter at all. As long as you choose one. But there are other concerns than SEO. Read on.

Près d'un après les débuts du .app, Google lance .dev, un domaine adressé au domaine de la technologie et surtout des développeurs.À partir d’aujourd’hui, Google ouvre un domaine, le « .dev ». La société indique que ce domaine est dédié aux développeurs (logiquement) et à la technologie en général. Un moyen de regrouper divers outils, langages de programmation ou blogs sous une seule et même extension. Pour héberger votre site sous ce nouveau domaine, il vous suffit de trouver l’hébergeur de votre choix sur Google Registry. Pour ceux qui ont prévu d’aller à la Google I/O cette année, la firme de Mountain View offre un nom de domaine en .dev pour tout billet réservé. Un avantage de ce domaine, il est sécurisé par défaut, il exige HTTPS. Google a déjà transféré plusieurs de ses sites en .dev, comme web.dev, opensource.dev et flutter.dev.

Les alternatives au .comNe pas avoir son .com est gênant mais pas insurmontable. Il est de plus en plus difficile de trouver des noms de domaine courts, simples et mémorisables dans la première extension mondiale. Il faut savoir que le .com représente à lui seul près de 142.5 millions de noms de domaine, soit 40% des extensions mondiales. Pour vous donner un ordre d’idée, la Chine est en seconde place avec seulement 23 millions de .cn, la France ne possède que 3.4 millions de .fr. Certaines extensions pays sont devenues au fil du temps des alternatives, telles que le .io, le .tv, le .co entre autres, qui comme les nouvelles extensions abordées précédemment, sont traitées de la même manière par Google qu’un .com.
