FBB Rum Revelry Fundraiser

FBB Rum Revelry Fundraiser | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Full Basket Belize is having their Rum Revelry fundraiser on Thursday, April 29th.  Support a great cause, high school scholarships for Belizeans, while learning how to make run drinks.  You could win a stay at the Copal Tree Lodge.

"April 29 is just around the corner - but don't worry, there's still time to register for Rum Revelry. Support students and communities in Belize, enjoy a fun and lively evening, and enter for a chance to win a 3-Night Stay for Two at a Beautiful Belizean Jungle Eco-Lodge!

It’s the FBB 2021 RUM REVELRY fundraiser to support our scholarship program for outstanding students in Belize. All brought to you with the generous support of Copalli Rum and Copal Tree Lodge.

In this hour-long event, you’ll be guided by internationally renowned mixologist and Copalli Rum Brand Ambassador, Elayne Duff, as we learn to make delicious Daiquiris and Mojitos. We’ll also travel virtually to Belize to get a behind the scenes, farm-to-glass look at how Copalli makes their organic, sustainably-produced, zero carbon footprint, award-winning rum. And we’ll hear about the good works of the folks at the Copal Tree Lodge — the luxury eco-lodge that’s the home of the Copalli Distillery — where YOU could win a 3-night stay!"

Chaa Creek a 'Top Value Spa'

Chaa Creek a 'Top Value Spa' | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Not a month goes by where Chaa Creek isn't on a top 10 list.  This month they made gayot.com's list for 'Top Value Spas' and Fox News' list of 7 'stunning jungle and rainforest retreats.'

http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2013/04/11/7-stunning-jungle-and-rainforest-retreats/

"The Lodge at Chaa Creek prides itself on being a true eco lodge, 100 per cent devoted to green, sustainable tourism.  Set on 365 acres on a private nature reserve in Belize, the riverfront resort offers a vast menu of adventure travel packages at great rates.  After a day of spotting exotic animals, hiking along a medicinal plant trail, canoeing at sunset on the Macal River, horseback riding or rainforest ziplining, guests like to chill at the jungle bar or relax with luxurious spa treatments.  While the cost of a therapeutic massage is not cheap at $85 (or $70 for a custom facial), the environment is priceless: al fresco pampering with views of the rainforest, a musical backdrop of tropical birds and a spa that is decorated with fresh flowers every day."

A Wonderful Trip to San Ignacio

A Wonderful Trip to San Ignacio | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Here's a well written travel article about Cayo which makes for a great Sunday read.  It has many colorful pictures, many from houses around town, along with some pictures from downtown, and the Mopan river.  Bullet Tree Falls, 'deep into the jungle' as the author puts it, is shown in pictures, as well as the Parrot Nest, which is where they stayed.  Mr. Greedy's get an honorable mention too.

"How an Unexpected Delay Led to a Wonderful Trip to San Ignacio, Belize.  Sometimes, when it seems like things are going from bad to worst, all you gotta do is hang in there for a bit until the sun comes out again...  Something you immediately notice upon entering Belize are the colors of the residences. If you're from the USA and ever wondered whatever happens to all those always-on-sale-at-50-percent-off cans of loud, garish paint, I have a theory about where they end up."

Belize Trails Wilderness Survival Course

Belize Trails Wilderness Survival Course | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Belize Trails, a new Cayo based organization that will specialize in the design and construction of sustainable jungle trails, is having a Wilderness Survival Course starting on December 2nd.  You can learn how to prepare a jungle survival kit, identify edible plants, navigate the jungle, train your mind for jungle survival, and much more.  Sir Winston Harris and Lenney Gentle, who both have lived in the jungle for extended periods of time, will be some of the leaders of the course.

"Wilderness Survival is an intensive survival training program in the jungle of Belize.  Instructors provide students with essential skills to improve their chances of surviving and leading a team under adverse conditions in the tropics.  This program provides hands-on skill development in route finding and orientation, shelter making, water procurement, trapping and hunting, foraging, fire-craft and bush medicine during a multi-night simulation experience.  Students are introduced to the psychology of survival, basic wilderness skills, leadership training and emergency rescue."

8 Green Ways to Experience Belize

8 Green Ways to Experience Belize | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Cayo has four of the sites in this almost a top 10 list.  Actun Tunichil Muknal tops the list, of course.  Xunantunich is next on the list, followed by the Maya Organic Farm at Chaa Creek.  Ending the list is a jungle tour.  While there are many others, these are 8 great ways to start.

"With the rise in the popularity of ecotourism, Belize has positioned itself as a leader in the field, with the government protecting 40% of the land for conservation purposes.  It’s hard to find a hotel, lodge, or service that is not eco-friendly in Belize.  Though it may be impossible to know how much the locals focus on 'being green' in their daily life, connecting with indigenous Maya people through education programs or learning about sustainability efforts from guides indicates a commitment to protecting their land, even as tourism grows."

Black Rock Lodge

Black Rock Lodge | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Black Rock Lodge got a good mention on the web.  They have some amazing reveiws on Trip Advisor, and are ranked number 3 in hotels.  Beautiful spot.  http://www.blackrocklodge.com/

"Have you heard of Black Rock Lodge? I hadn’t until I did a little research into the best hotels for budget travelers in the San Ignacio area...  It’s a small, off the grid hotel in the San Ignacio area of Belize that offers locally grown food, has a hydropower system and also uses solar power electricity.  How cool is that?"

Ka'ana in Hospitality Design

Ka'ana in Hospitality Design | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The owner's of Ka'ana were interviewed by Hospitality Design about their new private pool villas.  The unique villas are quite luxurious, and utilize many different type of local woods in their design.  They explain what they created quite well.

“With the villas, we challenged ourselves to create a truly world-class product that could sit alongside these great destinations and really put Ka'ana on par with the best of the best, and our own favorite resorts around the world.  We wanted to make sure to embrace the local environment and culture but maintain the modern feeling that is present throughout the resort.  We love the contrast of providing luxury amenities to guests while they are surrounded by the raw Belizean jungle. After a hike across rivers and exploring caves it's great to return to something clean and lush.”
