7 Reasons Belize Should be on Your Bucket List

7 Reasons Belize Should be on Your Bucket List | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Belize is, for good reason, showing up on a lot of tourism websites.  While Cayo isn't the main focus of this article(as it should be), it's still mentioned.

"A Central American country with amazing beaches and gorgeous waters that isn't Costa Rica...  Jump on an inner tube and explore the limestone caves at the Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve.  This network of caverns was once the sight of sacred Mayan rituals.  Cave tubing in Belize is a must when visiting mainland Belize."

Central American Volleyball Championships

Central American Volleyball Championships | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The U23 Male National Volleyball team took 4th place at the Central American Volleyball Championship that took place in Panama.  They took 4th place.  Great job!

In related news, the U23 Female National Volleyball team came in 5th at the Central American Volleyball Championship that was held in Honduras.

"Team Belize (U23 Men) finished the tournament with beating Honduras 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-19) in their 6th straight day of playing and hoping for favorable results in the other matches to get a chance at medal.  Unfortunately Costa Rica lost knocking us out of medal contention.  The team did a very respectable 3-3 record, placing 4th in the tournament.  Their only losses to the 3 medalist, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador.  For the tournament Denver Lino will likely finish statistically as the Best Blocker but the award is only given to Middle Blockers."

Belize on '10 Relaxing Solo Vacations' List

Belize on '10 Relaxing Solo Vacations' List | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Belize made it on another top 10 list, although this list proves that the makers of top 10 lists have run out of ideas.  Really, '10 Relaxing Solo Vacations For New Divorcees?'  And Belize isn't in South America!  Maybe the Huffington Post needs a new copy editor.  At least San Ignacio got some recognition.

"Like Costa Rica, Belize -- a South American travel destination that's recently become a trendy hub of sustainable tourism -- has a lot to offer the single traveler.  Belize boasts the beauty and tranquility of a tropical getaway without the crowds, couples and high cost.  Experience the local flavor by touring through Caye Caulker, San Pedro and San Ignacio, and make sure to schedule some R&R time at the country's stunning beaches and nature preserves.  If you're feeling daring, don't miss adventure activities like climbing ancient Mayan ruins and ziplining through the rainforest."

Deon McCaulay is Leading Scorer

Deon McCaulay is Leading Scorer | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Belize takes on the United States tomorrow for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.  Deon McCaulay is the leading scorer for the qualifying rounds, and he got a great write up on Goal.com.  The game will be shown most everywhere in Cayo tomorrow.  It starts at 7:00pm.

"Who is the leading scorer in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying?  No, it's not Clint Dempsey.  It's not Chicharito . Nor is it an MLS standout like Blas Perez, Jerry Bengtson or Alvaro Saborio.  It's Deon McCaulay from unheralded Belize.  OK, so all of his 11 goals came in the lightweight, first two rounds of qualifying, and four of them came against Montserrat.  McCaulay did manage to hit Guatemala for two goals in the second round, though, and he is not a complete unknown, as he trialed with the Portland Timbers in February.  The 25-year-old has plenty to play for, as a good showing against the USA, Cuba or Costa Rica could land him on a few more MLS radars."
