For decades, futurists and science fiction writers predicted that smart machines would someday rival the intelligence of humans. Now, their forecasts seem to be coming true. Artificial intelligence, or AI, already exceeds human capability in certain fields. Machines can send and receive signals and analyze vast quantities of data faster than humans. They have learned to drive cars, manage stock portfolios and, through personal assistants such as Siri and Alexa, talk to us. In the not-so-distant future, AI may even augment our own brain functions. But as with all revolutions, the potential of AI raises concerns. Among the biggest: Some worry that that its growing capability may trigger the largest labor displacement since the Great Depression. This panel will explore the many ways artificial intelligence will shape our workforce, culture and institutions in the years to come.

HyperNormalisation wades through the culmination of forces that have driven this culture into mass uncertainty, confusion, spectacle and simulation. Where events keep happening that seem crazy, inexplicable and out of control—from Donald Trump to Brexit, to the War in Syria, mass immigration, extreme disparity in wealth, and increasing bomb attacks in the West—this film shows a basis to not only why these chaotic events are happening, but also why we, as well as those in power, may not understand them. We have retreated into a simplified, and often completely fake version of the world. And because it is reflected all around us, ubiquitous, we accept it as normal. This epic narrative of how we got here spans over 40 years, with an extraordinary cast of characters—the Assad dynasty, Donald Trump, Henry Kissinger, Patti Smith, early performance artists in New York, President Putin, Japanese gangsters, suicide bombers, Colonel Gaddafi and the Internet. HyperNormalisation weaves these historical narratives back together to show how today's fake and hollow world was created and is sustained. This shows that a new kind of resistance must be imagined and actioned, as well as an unprecedented reawakening in a time where it matters like never before.

Mais Paul Duan lui, y voit surtout la possibilité d’un monde meilleur. A 22 ans, ce génie revient des Etats-Unis avec la ferme intention de diminuer le chômage… rien qu’avec des algorithmes ! Explications.
Paul Duan est né à Trappes de migrants chinois qui ont fui la répression communiste. Excellent élève, il a eu un parcours exemplaire : le lycée de Buc dans les Yvelines, Sciences Po puis Berkeley, dans la Silicon Valley.
Là-bas, il crée en 2014 une ONG baptisée Bayes Impact. Son but ? « Faire de la Terre un endroit meilleur » grâce à une saine utilisation des données.
Ça peut sembler ambitieux mais, malgré son jeune âge, Paul Duan a déjà quelques succès à son actif : l’optimisation du trajet des ambulances de San Francisco et la prévention des risques dans les hôpitaux. Le stockage infini de nos données et la sécurité de leur conservation, préceptes de base de notre croyance technologique, ont été surévalués par les fabricants. Aussi paradoxal que cela paraisse, notre monde numérique doit apprendre à créer de la mémoire.
Benjamin Gaulon aka Recyclism est artiste, chercheur, enseignant à Parsons Paris The New School for Design. Dans chacune de ces activités, il s’attache à développer une approche créative et critique autour de la technologie, des médias et des modes de consommation qu’ils génèrent. Il organise également depuis 2005 des « e-waste workshop » où le public s’initie au circuit bending, au hardware hacking, ainsi qu’aux problématiques liées à l’obsolescence programmée : on y détourne du matériel en apparence obsolète pour recomposer ainsi de nouveaux objets électroniques. L’expérimentation pédagogique, envisagée comme mode de recherche, vient compléter l’arsenal des tactiques de cet artiste qui recycle, hack et détourne.

The new DroneDefender uses radio pulses to disable a hostile drone within a 400-meter radius. These pulses interrupt the communications system of the drone, making it think it is out of range. The drone’s safety protocols then kick in, forcing it to either hover, return to its point of origin, or descend slowly as it prepares to land. Because the weapon jams communication with the nearby operator, the DroneDefender also can prevent detonation and other remote functions.

Created by Jonathan Fletcher Moore and Fabio Piparo, Artificial Killing Machine is an autonomous mechanical installation that uses the public database on U.S. military drone strikes to visualise deaths of individuals that would otherwise be represented purely as statistical data. When a drone strike occurs, the machine activates, and fires a children’s toy cap gun for every death that results. The raw information used by the installation is then printed. The materialised data is allowed to accumulate in perpetuity or until the life cycle of either the database or machine ends. A single chair is placed beneath the installation inviting the viewers to sit in the chair and experience the imagined existential risk.

Dans un court-métrage intitulé «Télévision, œil de demain », qui a refait surface sur le site de l’INA, il souffle comme un air de 2015. À l’époque, ce film ne faisait que prédire de façon exagérée les utilisations futures de la télévision. Mais cette adaptation cinématographique d’un essai de science-fiction de Barjavel est aujourd’hui le reflet de notre quotidien.

She’s also led a European biking and camping tour for teenagers, traveled by train from Kazakhstan to Beijing and lived on a boat. Allison Burtch has a master’s degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program.
Solar Roadways is a modular paving system of solar panels that can withstand the heaviest of trucks (250,000 pounds). These Solar Road Panels can be installed on roads, parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, bike paths, playgrounds... literally any surface under the sun. They pay for themselves primarily through the generation of electricity, which can power homes and businesses connected via driveways and parking lots. A nationwide system could produce more clean renewable energy than a country uses as a whole (http://solarroadways.com/numbers.shtml). They have many other features as well, including: heating elements to stay snow/ice free, LEDs to make road lines and signage, and attached Cable Corridor to store and treat stormwater and provide a "home" for power and data cables. EVs will be able to charge with energy from the sun (instead of fossil fuels) from parking lots and driveways and after a roadway system is in place, mutual induction technology will allow for charging while driving.
