#Transmedia Manifest - The futur of #Storytelling

#Transmedia Manifest - The futur of #Storytelling | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

The art of storytelling has always been subject to change. Through the process of digitalization and the accompanying media convergence, we’re now on the verge of a quantum leap. We are no longer viewers, listeners, readers, users, or players.Today, we are “experiencers”, whose roles and behaviors change based on how we use and approach media.

Manifestos for the Internet Age is a reader that collects manifestos of computer culture, starting with Ted Nelson (Computer Lib), through the GNU Manifesto and the Hacker Manifesto (1986), up to current influential positions such as The Cult of Done, the Cryptoparty Manifesto, the Critical Engineering Manifesto (Oliver, Savičić, Vasiliev), the 3D Additivist Manifesto (Morehshin Allahyari & Daniel Rourke), the Xenofeminist Manifesto (Laboria Cuboniks), and many other writings from both artists and activists.

This book is currently in beta status. Development is ongoing in the Git repository (participation is welcome). The book is generated using MarkDown, Pandoc and TeX.

The initial release was created over a week-end, during a Greyscale Press “BookLab” workshop held at the Fahrenheit39 Art Book Fair in Ravenna (read more about it here).

The Manifesto of John Doe - #PanamaPapers #Leaks

The Manifesto of John Doe - #PanamaPapers #Leaks | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

More than a year ago the Süddeutsche Zeitung was contacted by a source who was intent on staying anonymous. The source called himself “John Doe” and offered internal data belonging to the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca. The Süddeutsche Zeitung decided to analyze the data in cooperation with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). In the course of the research the cooperation was extended to include more than 100 media organizations from over 80 countries. The publication of the Panama Papers caused an enormous stir all over the globe: Politicians and functionaries had to resign, there was a large amount of public protest, and the stories led to raids and investigations in dozens of countries.

Now “John Doe”, the anonymous source, has sent the SZ a manifesto, which can be read as an explanation of his actions – and as a call to action. The manifesto and its inherent political stance had no editorial influence on the reporting by the SZ or of any of the other cooperating media organizations – nor will it influence them in the future. The SZ did not have to agree to any conditions concerning the reporting in order to receive the data of the Panama Papers.

The Mundane Afrofuturist Manifesto - for worldbuilding outside of imperialist, capitalist, white patriarchy

The Mundane Afrofuturist Manifesto - for worldbuilding outside of imperialist, capitalist, white patriarchy | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

The undersigned, being alternately pissed off and bored, need a means of speculation and asserting a different set of values with which to re-imagine the future. In looking for a new framework for black diasporic artistic production, we are temporarily united in the following actions.

***The Mundane Afrofuturists recognize that:***

We did not originate in the cosmos.

The connection between Middle Passage and space travel is tenuous at best.

Out of five hundred thirty-four space travelers, fourteen have been black. An all-black crew is unlikely.

Magic interstellar travel and/or the wondrous communication grid can lead to an illusion of outer space and cyberspace as egalitarian.

This dream of utopia can encourage us to forget that outer space will not save us from injustice and that cyberspace was prefigured upon a "master/slave" relationship.

While we are often Othered, we are not aliens.

Though our ancestors were mutilated, we are not mutants.

Post-black is a misnomer.

Post-colonialism is too.

The most likely future is one in which we only have ourselves and this planet.
