Piero Manzoni (1933-1963): Artist's Shit, 1961
As an artist, Piero Manzoni was vehemently opposed to all forms of tradition, resulting in ironic works that criticise mass production and consumerism. An example of such a work is Merda d’Artista (Artist’s Shit) from 1961, where Manzoni created 90 cans with each 30 grams of contents, priced according to the then current value of gold.
