Agostino Fasolato 1714-1787.
Opera: The Fall of the Rebel Angels
1750 Carrara marble
Ubicazione: Palazzo Lions Montanari,
Vicenza
A pyramid of sixty figures carved from a single piece of marble nearly two meters high.
We represent the fight between good and evil, commanded respectively by the Archangel
Michael and Satan, as represented in the Apocalypse of Saint John.
At the top of the pyramid is Michele, with the sword drawn and the shield attached to the wrist engraved ′ ′ Quis Ut Deus ′ ′ in front of him, with his feet resting on the base of the composition, Satan he he himself: he holds the pitchfork in his two-pointed hand and from the left, points the index finger upwards in the direction of his opponent, between them the multitude of rebellious angels, cast out of paradise, and became demons in turn, among other creatures in the form of snakes and dragons.
