Trois vulnérabilités frappant les systèmes d'exploitation iOS et iPadOS ont été détectées. Il est conseillé de procéder le plus rapidement possible à la mise à jour de son appareil Apple, pour lever les doutes.

Après avoir déjà corrigé trois vulnérabilités zero-day exploitées par des individus malveillants en novembre dernier, Apple a une nouvelle fois été mise au parfum par des chercheurs en sécurité anonymes. La firme de Cupertino a mis à jour, ces dernières heures, ses systèmes d'exploitation iOS et iPadOS, afin de corriger non pas une, ni deux, mais trois nouvelles failles de sécurité de type zero-day.

Apple released fixes for various products this week, including several nasty arbitrary code execution (ACE) flaws, and a bug that has been public with proof-of-concept code for two months.

CVE-2019-8656, discovered by cybersecurity researcher Filippo Cavallarin, enabled an attacker to bypass Apple’s Gatekeeper functionality with a suitably formed Zip file. Gatekeeper is the Mac function that asks you if you want to run untrusted content downloaded from the web. Apple was supposed to have fixed this by mid-May following a 90-day responsible disclosure period, but didn’t, so Cavallarin published proof of concept code.

The fix was part of a patchfest addressing 48 separate entries in the CVE database. The patches spanned these Apple products:

iOS 12.4
tvOS 12.4 (the Apple TV operating system)
Safari browser 12.1.2
iTunes 12.9.6 for Windows
iCloud for Windows 10.6 and 7.13
watchOS 5.3
macOS Mojave 10.14.6, High Sierra, and Sierra

Many of the fixes addressed single bugs that affected multiple Apple products, showing how tightly integrated Apple’s code base is. One of the most notable was for the company’s WebKit browser engine, which it mandates for other browser vendors (Chrome is forced to use WebKit on Apple operating systems rather than its own Blink engine, for example).

Les serveurs d’Apple qui distribuent les fichiers indispensables à l’installation de macOS High Sierra ont peut-être quelques soucis depuis hier. Un lecteur nous a contacté pour nous indiquer qu’il n’arrivait pas à terminer l’installation du système sur son Mac. Un message d’erreur signale que certains « éléments importants […] ne peuvent pas être téléchargés pour le moment. » et la seule solution proposée est de recommencer ultérieurement.

Ce problème est également signalé à plusieurs reprises dans nos forums, trop souvent pour ne pas dire qu’il y a un problème du côté d’Apple. Et ce n’est pas un souci uniquement français, ou même européen, puisque l’on a au moins cet internaute américain qui se plaint du même problème sur les réseaux sociaux.

Pour l’heure, Apple n’a pas communiqué sur un bug lié à ses serveurs de mises à jour. S’agit-il d’un souci de distribution sur le CDN utilisé par la firme ? D’un certificat périmé peut-être ? Quoi qu’il en soit, si vous essayez d’installer macOS High Sierra et que vous voyez ce message d’erreur, sachez que ce n’est a priori pas de la faute de votre connexion ou de votre réseau local. Patienter semble être la seule solution pour le moment.

qui ont été offertes en parallèle à High Sierra, au travers de la mise à jour 10.13.4.

Des mises à jour spécifiques estampillées "Security Update 2018-002" à récupérer sur le Mac App Store (Safari 11.1 proposé à ces système contient aussi son lot de bugs supprimés). Elles règlent des lacunes à différents niveaux, que ce soit le kernel, APFS, Mail, Notes, des pilotes graphiques Intel, iCloud Drive, le Terminal, etc.

Parmi ces failles, il y en avait une par exemple permettant à une application d'enregistrer, à l'insu de l'utilisateur, les touches qu'il frappait lorsqu'il tapait du texte dans un autre logiciel. Un keylogger tout à fait discret en somme. Le même défaut était partagé par iOS et il a été corrigé pareillement.

Pas mal de failles, communes à macOS et iOS, avaient été dénichées par Samuel Groß, elles avaient comme point commun d'accorder à une application des droits d'accès indus.

Apple corrige Meltdown pour les anciennes versions de macOS
Sécurité : Les utilisateurs des versions Sierra ou El Capitan de MacOS peuvent désormais se protéger contre une faille de conception des processeurs Intel qui pourrait permettre aux pirates informatiques d'accéder à des informations sensibles.

Vous voulez rester à l'abri des pirates tout en utilisant une ancienne version de MacOS d'Apple, le logiciel sous-jacent qui gère ses ordinateurs portables et de bureau ? A présent, il y a un patch pour cela.

Mardi, la société a publié des mises à jour des systèmes d'exploitation Sierra et El Capitan qui protégeront les utilisateurs de Meltdown, la faille de design des CPU qui pourrait permettre à des pirates d'accéder à des informations sensibles à partir du processeur d'un ordinateur.

Priorité à High Sierra
Le correctif signifie que plus d'utilisateurs Mac seront à l'abri d'une vulnérabilité qui affecte des centaines de millions de processeurs produits par Intel au cours des 20 dernières années. Les corrections apportées aux systèmes d'exploitation constituent l'un des principaux moyens de protéger les ordinateurs.

Le correctif arrive plus de deux semaines après la diffusion d’une mise à jour par Apple pour son système d'exploitation le plus récent, High Sierra. C'était peu de temps après la révélation par des chercheurs en sécurité de l’existence de la faille de conception Meltdown, et d’un défaut semblable appelé Spectre. La faille Spectre affecte les puces faites par AMD et ARM, en plus des CPU Intel.

Apple n'a pas immédiatement répondu à une demande de commentaire sur les raisons pour lesquelles les mises à jour de Sierra et d'El Capitan sont parvenues après le correctif pour High Sierra.

La dixième mise à jour d'iOS 11 est prête. Une publication par Apple en rapport avec le HomePod et Siri, ainsi que pour la correction de bugs dont chaiOS.

Apple publie la dixième mise à jour d'iOS 11. Deux semaines après iOS 11.2.2 et des mesures d'atténuation pour la vulnérabilité Spectre, la mise à jour iOS 11.2.5 introduit la prise en charge du HomePod qui sortira le 9 février prochain aux États-Unis, Royaume-Uni et Australie, mais seulement au printemps en France.

iOS 11.2.5 introduit également la lecture de l'actualité par Siri et des questions portant sur des catégories spécifiques comme l'actualité sportive, musicale et économique. Toutefois, ce sont les marchés précédemment cités qui sont pour le moment concernés.

Le reste est une affaire de correction de bugs. Parmi ceux-ci, le fait que des conversations dans Messages pouvaient être présentées dans le désordre, un problème d'affichage incomplet des informations sur la liste des appels.

En matière de sécurité, c'est la correction de treize vulnérabilités. La correction du problème faisant qu'un message texte spécialement conçu entraîne un déni de service de l'application entre dans ce registre de la sécurité. Le fameux bug dit chaiOS.

If you own any Apple products, you're going to want to make sure you have the latest updates installed.

Apple just released two incredibly important security updates for iOS and MacOS, which address the massive Spectre vulnerability Apple previously said affects all Macs and iPhones.

The updates, 11.2.2 for iOS and 10.13.2 for macOS High Sierra, are available now for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Spectre was one of two major CPU vulnerabilities revealed by security researchers last week that affects devices with processors from major chip makers, including Intel, AMD, and ARM. Apple previously released software updates to address the other flaw, Meltdown.

While it's always a good idea to keep your software up to date, these latest updates are especially important. As security researchers have warned, the Meltdown and Spectre bugs are particularly nasty. So even if you're the type to wait days, or even weeks, to update to the latest software, you really shouldn't waste any time with these updates.

Google and Microsoft also previously released software updates to address the issue.

Dans la foulée de macOS 10.13.2, Apple livre aussi des mises à jour de sécurité pour macOS Sierra et OS X El Capitan. Elles contiennent les mêmes correctifs que la toute dernière mouture de High Sierra bien évidemment.

Avec macOS 10.13.2, Safari passe en version 11.0.2 pour High Sierra bien sûr, mais aussi pour Sierra (10.12.6) et El Capitan (10.11.6). Ces mises à jour sont à récupérer depuis le Mac App Store.

Die von Apple schnell ausgelieferte Aktualisierung für macOS 10.13 kann die Dateifreigabe lahmlegen. Inzwischen hat der Mac-Hersteller bei dem Sicherheits-Update nochmals nachgebessert – das File-Sharing-Problem aber offenbar nicht ausgeräumt.

Das wichtige Sicherheits-Update 2017-001 für macOS High Sierra führt unter Umständen zu Problemen bei der Dateifreigabe: Nach der Installation des Updates, das Apple inzwischen auch automatisch einspielt, funktioniert der entfernte Zugriff auf die per File Sharing geteilten Verzeichnisse des Macs nicht länger, wie Nutzer berichten.

Workaround bei Dateifreigabe-Problem in High Sierra
Apple ist der Fehler bekannt, das Unternehmen hat bereits einen manuellen Workaround veröffentlicht: Nutzer sollen im Terminal
sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC
eingeben und den Befehl ausführen, so Apple – dafür ist die Eingabe des Admin-Passwortes vonnöten. Dies repariere die Dateifreigabe.

Apple bessert bei Sicherheits-Update nach

Offenbar hat Apple bei dem Security-Update 2017-001 inzwischen nachgebessert und – ohne weiteren Hinweis – eine neue Fassung veröffentlicht, die nun auch für macOS 10.13.0 gedacht ist. Zuvor wurde noch macOS 10.13.1 vorausgesetzt. Nach der Installation zeigt die Neufassung die Build-Nummer 17B1003, bei der ersten Version war es noch 17B1002. Die neue Fassung scheint aber ein für Unterstützung der ersten öffentlichen High-Sierra-Version zu sorgen, das Dateifreigabenproblem kann offenbar weiterhin auftreten.

Apple released a security update Wednesday to fix a major bug that allowed anyone to bypass security protocols and act as a computer's administrator.

"Security is a top priority for every Apple product, and regrettably we stumbled with this release of macOS," a spokesperson for Apple said in a statement. "When our security engineers became aware of the issue Tuesday afternoon, we immediately began working on an update that closes the security hole."

The security issue impacted macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. Apple says the update is now available for download and will be rolled out automatically to all systems running the affected software.
On Tuesday, developers noticed that someone with access to a Mac computer running Apple's most recent Mac software could type "root" and no password in the Users & Groups section of System Preferences and gain administrator-level access to the computer.

But the first security update has already come out, and we suggest you apply it urgently.

If you own a Mac and haven't upgraded to the new High Sierra OS, your system could be vulnerable to threats like Thunderstrike, a malware attack that enters through your computer's Thunderbolt port.

Researchers from Duo Security published a white paper today explaining the potential issues, which was first noticed by 9to5Mac. The firm analyzed 73,324 Mac computers and found that, on average, 4.2 percent of them weren't running the proper firmware, leaving the systems vulnerable to cyber attacks. Luckily for consumers, the vulnerabilities aren't thought to be as risky for home users according to a Duo blog post summarizing the paper — but you should still be sure you're running the right firmware. 

Although Apple has released security updates to protect against Thunderstrike attacks, the researchers found that, for some reason, the critical updates weren't always applied.

En même temps que la version finale de macOS 10.14.6, Apple a livré cette semaine des mises à jour de sécurité pour ses systèmes plus anciens : une pour macOS Sierra, une autre pour macOS High Sierra, toutes deux numérotées 2019-004. Celles-ci semblent receler un très sérieux bug.

Plusieurs utilisateurs ayant appliqué ces mises à jour se sont retrouvés avec des Mac en kernel panic dès qu'ils basculent ou qu'ils sortent de veille. C'est surtout le cas visiblement sur des MacBook Pro. On retrouve un certain nombre de témoignages sur ce fil de discussion des forums d'assistance d'Apple.

Les pages de ces mises à jour ne sont d'ailleurs plus disponibles, du moins sur la version US du site du constructeur (pour Sierra, pour High Sierra). En revanche, ces pages sont toujours en ligne dans d'autres pays (ici et là pour la France).

Mettre à jour son Mac sous macOS Mojave semble résoudre le problème, mais ce n'est pas forcément une solution idéale pour tous les utilisateurs. En attendant d'en savoir plus, mieux vaut donc s'abstenir d'installer ces mises à jour.

Apple has released iOS 12.1.4. It's a patch that fixes a bug that allowed users to spy on others by activating a group FaceTime call without the user's consent. What made this bug so serious was how trivial it was to leverage, and it forced Apple to pull the plug on the feature at the server end while it developed a fix.

Following the rollout of iOS 12.1.4, Apple will switch group FaceTime calls back on, but only for those who have applied the update. Group FaceTime will remain disabled for all iOS users running iOS 12.1.3 or earlier. So, if you like group FaceTime calls, this update is a must-have for you (and those you called).

This bug, likely the most serious to hit iPhone and iPad users, has already resulted in at least one lawsuit.

Apple delivered its latest batch of security updates for iOS and macOS this week.

On iDevices, the update was a full-on point release, bumping the iOS version from 11.3 to 11.3.1 and making it easy to check whether you’ve installed the update correctly: just go to Settings → General → Software Update and see what version number you’re currently on.

For Mac users, the patch is dubbed simply Security Update 2018-001, so your macOS version stays at 10.13.4 after you’ve installed it.

Safari was bumped from 11 to 11.1 in this update – note that if you’re still on El Capitan or Sierra (OS X 10.11.6 and macOS 10.12.6 respectively), where there isn’t a 2018-001 update, you’ll need to update Safari separately.

Just two critical vulnerabilities were patched this time, both of them in the WebKit web rendering code in iOS and macOS.

Apple propose la mise à jour macOS 10.3.3 pour High Sierra sur Mac, et s'occupe des anciennes versions de macOS pour la faille Meltdown.

iOS 11.2.5, tvOS 11.2.5, watchOS 4.2.2 mais également macOS 10.13.3. Dans sa nouvelle salve de mises à jour pour ses systèmes d'exploitation, Apple n'oublie pas le système d'exploitation de l'ordinateur Mac.

macOS 10.13.3 est annoncé comme une mise à jour qui améliorer la stabilité et la sécurité. Elle corrige un problème faisant qu'un ordinateur Mac pouvait cesser de répondre lors d'une connexion à un serveur SMB, et un problème modifiant l'ordre des conversations dans Messages.

Ce même souci dans Messages a été corrigé avec iOS 11.2.5. De même, des corrections de sécurité sont partagées entre macOS 10.13.3 et iOS 11.2.5, comme pour le bug dit chaiOS mais aussi des failles dans le noyau découvertes par Project Zero.

High Sierra n'est pas la seule itération de macOS à recevoir des correctifs de sécurité, dont pour la vieille faille dans IOHIDFamily. C'est aussi le cas de Sierra et El Capitan. En l'occurrence, il s'agit notamment d'intégrer des correctifs pour la vulnérabilité Meltdown. High Sierra avait déjà été préalablement servi à ce niveau.

The fix, previously reserved for newer Macs, is now available on older versions of macOS..

Apple has rolled out a security fix to older Macs in an effort to mitigate the risk from a vulnerability in modern chips.

The technology giant on Tuesday released a fix for Meltdown, a flaw that can allow an attacker to read protected kernel memory, for the latest versions of macOS Sierra (10.12.6), and OS X El Capitan (10.11.6).

macOS Sierra and its predecessor OS X El Capitan were not initially patched, with Apple opting to release a supplemental security update only for macOS 10.13.2 on January 8.

Some criticized the company for effectively forcing customers to update their entire operating system in order to receive patches. Although updating systems is one of the most important ways to protect against security vulnerabilities, many do not update their systems for fear of breaking legacy software.

Another day, another patch to install. This time, it's iOS 11.2.2 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

The patch is to fix the Spectre vulnerability that came to light earlier this month.

Apple describes the patch as follows:

iOS 11.2.2 includes security improvements to Safari and WebKit to mitigate the effects of Spectre (CVE-2017-5753 and CVE-2017-5715).
Apple says it "recommends" the update "for all users."

To download the update, go to Settings > General > Software Update (the preferred way, and this way the patch is only about 75MB), or connect your iPhone to a computer running iTunes and then carry out the update (this is slower and downloads the entire iOS 11.2.2 package, which is several gigabytes, as opposed to just the smaller update).

The patch that Apple rushed out yesterday to fix the root access flaw in macOS brings with it problems of its own. Fortunately, this new bug is quite easy to fix.

The patch that Apple released to fix the "root" security flaw discovered in the latest release of macOS High Sierra is causing problems for some users.

The patch - which Apple rushed out in less than 24 hours - can cause file sharing to stop working for some users, according to a support document published by Apple.

The fix itself is pretty straightforward, although does require users to be familiar with using Terminal:

• Open the Terminal app (which is in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder)
• Type sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC and press Return
• Enter your administrator password when requested and press Return
• Quit the Terminal app

Note that this fix is only for the file sharing bug caused by Security Update 2017-001 for macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. If you're running a different version, this patch isn't for you.

It's likely that Apple will push a patch for this bug as part of the macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 update.

At first, the Twitter user who publicised this flaw was criticised by some people, who considered his tweet to be “irresponsible disclosure”, because it told the world about a problem that it might have been better to tell Apple about privately first so the hole could be closed and then announced.

But others soon realised that this was not a brand new discovery – indeed, it had been discussed more than two weeks ago on Apple’s on support forum.

Apple’s official policy of saying nothing about security issues until a fix is out meant that there wasn’t much to go on once the news broke, except to assume that the company was frantically coding up a fix…

…and, fortunately that turns out to have been true.

Dans de nombreux cas, le système EFI des Mac reste vulnérable même si l’on télécharge toutes les mises à jour proposées par Apple. Les utilisateurs concernés peuvent donc être la cible d’attaques Thunderstrike, particulièrement néfastes.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company rolled out 23 security fixes in iOS 10.3.2 and another 30 fixes in macOS 10.12.5, both of which were released on Monday.

Among the bugs, two bugs in iBooks for iOS could allow an attacker to arbitrarily open websites and execute malicious code at the kernel level. Over a dozen flaws were found in WebKit, which renders websites and pages on iPhones and iPads, that could allow several kinds of cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

A separate flaw in iBooks for macOS desktops and notebooks could allow an application to escape its secure sandbox, a technology used to prevent data loss or theft in the case of an app compromise.

Almost half of the bugs found were attributed to Google's Project Zero, the search giant's in-house vulnerability-finding and security team.
