"In October 2012, the European Union (EU) agency 'European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control' (ECDC) released a translation memory (TM), i.e. a collection of sentences and their professionally produced translations, in twenty-five languages. The data gets distributed via the web pages of the EC's Joint Research Centre (JRC). Here we describe this resource, which bears the name ECDC Translation Memory, short ECDC-TM.
ECDC-TM covers 25 languages: the 23 official languages of the EU plus Norwegian (Norsk) and Icelandic. ECDC-TM was created by translating from English into the following 24 languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Gaelige (Irish), German, Greek, Finnish, French, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Norwegian (NOrsk), Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish and Swedish. The JRC then combined these 24 translation memory files to produce one large translation memory, allowing to also extract translation units for other language pairs.
All documents and sentences were thus originally written in English. They were then translated into the other languages by professional translators from the Translation Centre CdT in Luxembourg."

"5 November, 2009: Today, Meedan, is releasing the first publicly available open licensed Arabic/English Translation Memory (TM). This release comes as a part of Meedan's ongoing commitment to improving the state of Arabic language machine processing research and supporting translators and machine translation researchers.

The new translation memory, called MeedanMemory, contains around one million words in aligned Arabic and English sentence pairs. It constitutes an invaluable resource for translation professionals, Arabic linguistic researchers, academics and volunteer communities, and is the first translation memory of such size and sophistication to be released under an open access license.

MeedanMemory is packaged as a standards-compliant Translation Memory Exchange (TMX) file, which facilitates its integration with most computer assisted translation tools and translation memory managers.

تطلق ميدان اليوم أول ذاكرة ترجمة مفتوحة المصدر للغتين العربية والإنكليزية، ويأتي هذا الحدث تجسيداً لالتزام ميدان المستمر بتطوير أبحاث المعالجة الآلية للغة العربية ودعم المترجمين والباحثين في مجال الترجمة الآلية.

تحتوي ذاكرة الترجمة الجديدة والتي سميت (ذاكرة ميدان) ما يقارب المليون كلمة، مرتبة ضمن أزواج من الجمل المترجمة بين العربية والإنكليزية. وتوفر هذا الذاكرة مصدراً قيماً للمترجمين المحترفين والباحثين في مجال اللغويات العربية ومجتمعات المتطوعين، كما تعتبر أول ذاكرة ترجمة بهذا الحجم والتطور يتم إطلاقها ضمن إتفاقية ترخيص مفتوحة."
