4. Artificial stupidity. How can we guard against mistakes?

Intelligence comes from learning, whether you’re human or machine. Systems usually have a training phase in which they "learn" to detect the right patterns and act according to their input. Once a system is fully trained, it can then go into test phase, where it is hit with more examples and we see how it performs.

Obviously, the training phase cannot cover all possible examples that a system may deal with in the real world. These systems can be fooled in ways that humans wouldn't be. For example, random dot patterns can lead a machine to “see” things that aren’t there. If we rely on AI to bring us into a new world of labour, security and efficiency, we need to ensure that the machine performs as planned, and that people can’t overpower it to use it for their own ends.

This article effected me in the way of how I learn best. I am an audible learner but i also like to have a hard book to flip the pages of and look back on, instead of having to switch screens . Part of me has an aversion to reading long articles/stories/content online because in a textbook, i can use post-it notes, fold over pages, and flip back and forth easily. It is great that they are trying to make everything uniform with teachers and students, but not everyone learns the same or enjoys staring at a screen for countless hours in order to finish their homework. The internet is also a huge distraction.

Was der YouTube-Nutzer mit dem Pseudonym Kaplamino auf einer offenbar schräggestellten Holzplatte mit Kirschbaumfurnier angeordnet hat, fängt erst einmal an wie eine simple Murmelbahn, die vielleicht noch Dreijährigen die Kinnlade herunterfallen lässt: Eine Glasmurmel folgt der Bahn, die ihr von ein paar Holzleisten-Stückchen vorgegeben wird. Aber was sich dann im Lauf von rund vier Minuten auf insgesamt 16 Bildausschnitten abspielt, fasziniert auch Erwachsene: Wechselweise Murmeln und Stahlkugeln absolvieren einen vertrackten Parcours und lösen ausgeklügelte Mechanismen aus, bei dem Schaschlikspieße Impulse übertragen und pendelnde Papierstückchen einzelne Kugeln auf die richtige Bahn bringen. iBeacon (beacon = balise) est un système de positionnement en intérieur , qu' Apple présente comme " une nouvelle catégorie de transmetteurs à basse consommation énergétique et à bas coût qui peuvent notifier de leur présence les périphériques iOS 7 proches ". Les iBeacons peuvent également être utilisés par Android.
