Pull Up Your Pins: How to Size Pull-up Resistors (a bit necessary #Theory!) | #Arduino #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces #Electronics

Pull Up Your Pins: How to Size Pull-up Resistors (a bit necessary #Theory!) | #Arduino #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces #Electronics | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

One of the first lessons many people learn when starting off learning practical, hands-on electronics is the need for pull-up resistors. Whether to prevent floating I/O pins on a microcontroller or interfacing two circuits via an open-drain design; pull-up resistors are an often necessary but rarely appreciated component. So why do we use pull-up resistors, can’t we just connect a wire to the Vcc supply of our device? What size resistor should you use?

Building an NodeMCU ESP8266 Internet Connected Four-Relay Switch - DZone IoT | #Arduino #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

In our case, we use NODEMCU ESP8266, but you can use any other type of ESP8266 with all pins exposed. In our program, we connect D0, D1, D2, and D3 in a circuit, which controls the relays. The relays are using 5V. ESP8266 is using 3.3V. To connect the 3.3V ESP8266 to the 5V relay module, we use one NPN transistor 2N2222.

Switch Basics | #Electronics #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces

Switch Basics | #Electronics #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Poles and Throws, Open and Closed
A switch must have at least two terminals, one for the current to (potentially) go in, another to (potentially) come out. That only describes the simplest version of a switch though. More often than not, a switch has more than two pins. So how do all of those terminals line up with the internal workings of the switch? This is where knowing how many poles and throws a switch has is essential.

The number of poles* on a switch defines how many separate circuits the switch can control. So a switch with one pole, can only influence one single circuit. A four-pole switch can separately control four different circuits.

A switch’s throw-count defines how many positions each of the switch’s poles can be connected to. For example, if a switch has two throws, each circuit (pole) in the switch can be connected to one of two terminals.

Knowing how many poles and throws a switch has, it can be more specifically classified. Commonly you’ll see switches defined as “single-pole, single-throw”, “single-pole, double-throw”, “double-pole, double-throw”, which are more often abbreviated down to SPST, SPDT, and DPDT, respectively.

Stepper Motors with Arduino | #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Learn how to control bipolar and unipolar stepper motors with an Arduino using drivers like ULN2003, L298N and A4988. In this article I’ll show you all you need to know to get started with stepper motors.

Introduction
Stepper Motors are used in a wide variety of devices ranging from 3D printers and CNC machines to DVD drives, heating ducts and even analog clocks. Yet despite their popularity many experimenters shy away from using stepper motors as they seem to require complex hookups and code.

In this article I hope to dispel that myth by showing you just how easy it is to use a stepper motor with an Arduino. So follow along, I promise to take you through all of this “complex” stepper theory one step at a time!

Halloween Project with Skull, Arduino, Blinking LEDs and Scrolling Eyes

Soon is Halloween, so let us create a scary project while coding and DIY (tinkering a bit…). The tutorial is made for people who don’t have a 3D-Printer, we will use a 21 cm plastic Skull for 13€ bought on Amazon, 3 ARDUINO NANO’s and two 8 mm WHITE LEDs to realize this project. First let us have a look how the project will look to give you the right motivation to start it, check the video below, please:...

Arduino datalogger with SD card, DS3231 and DHT22 sensor

Arduino datalogger with SD card, DS3231 and DHT22 sensor | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Arduino datalogger project that logs: date, time, temperature and humidity on SD card. In this project the DS3231 chip will be used to maintain the time as well as the date and the DHT22 sensor to detect the relative humidity and the temperature. Two buttons are used to set time & date and LCD to display all data.

First Steps with the Arduino-UNO R3 and NANO | Maker, MakerED, Coding | I2C LCD Temp./Humidity displaying | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Displaying Temperature/Humidity on a I2C LCD  We were already playing around, as seen on my tutorials below, with the Temperature/Humidity sensors DHT11, DHT22 and LCD1602, without I2C possibility. There were a lot of cables to connect, we will try out this time to use a LCD with I2C bus connection as it uses less cabling (wiring)!

Make your own soda fountain out of cardboard | #Arduino #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces

Make your own soda fountain out of cardboard | #Arduino #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

If you’re ever wanted to make something awesome, but thought that you just didn’t have the right tools to do so, this soda fountain by “The Wrench” could provide the needed inspiration.

The project uses an Arduino Nano to control a small air pump via a relay, which turns on when a glass is the correct dispensing position. This pushes air into a sealed soda bottle, and soda is pushed out of another tube to equalize the pressure.
