Open Content Program (The Getty)

Open Content Program (The Getty) | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
The Open Content Program provides free, unrestricted access to the Getty's digital resources.

Why Open Content?

The Getty adopted the Open Content Program because we recognized the need to share images of works of art for free and without restriction, so that all those who create or appreciate art—scholars, artists, art lovers, and entrepreneurs—will have greater access to high-quality digital images for their studies and projects. Art inspires us, and imagination and creativity lead to artistic expressions that expand knowledge and understanding. The Getty sincerely hopes that people will use the open content images for a wide range of activities and that they will share the fruits of their labors with others.

What's in Open Content?

Currently, there are more than 87,000 images from the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Getty Research Institute available through the Open Content Program, including more than 72,000 from the Research Institute's Foto Arte Minore archive, which features photographs of the art and architecture of Italy over 30 years by German photographer and scholar Max Hutzel (1913–1988). Other images include paintings, drawings, manuscripts, photographs, antiquities, sculpture, decorative arts, artists' sketchbooks, watercolors, rare prints from the 16th through the 18th century, and 19th-century architectural drawings of cultural landmarks. Over time, images from the Getty Conservation Institute will be added, as well as more images from the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Getty Research Institute.

Gibbon is a new web app which makes it extremely easy to create beautiful-to-look-at learning playlists by simply adding specific article or video links to your custom-made content compilation.

Gibbon actually goes the extra mile by grabbing the full content from each original source you curate, by integrating it into your learning playlist, and by stripping out of any design distractions it may have been accompanied by.

Learning playlists can be easily edited, arranged and shared with others.

Gibbon offers a wonderful and elegant design, providing a clutter-free, elegant and very effective way to present and organize content lists.

Furthermore Gibbon adds a few specific touches that make this curation tool particularly fit for learning a topic, by providing reading time estimates for each link in a list, striking out titles of completed readings, highlighting with simple icons the type of content showcased (articles, video, etc.), and creating a focused and distraction-free reading environment.

My comment: Gibbon looks very promising to me, as it attempts not to be another generic curation tool but addresses a very specific need and application while providing a very well designed and usable tool.

Notwithstanding the beauty and simplicity of the UI I felt the need for an integrated search tool that would facilitate me in grabbing those content items I wanted to add into a learning playlist.

I also had several problems in trying to add new content to my test playlist. New URLs would "time out" easily while being fetched and all of the content added via the bookmarklet or the Google extension didn't show up in my collection.

A very promising tool to effectively curate content learning playlists.

Free to use.

Visual IT-Security/Worksheet-Secure Surfing

Visual IT-Security/Worksheet-Secure Surfing | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Possible instructions for educators on how they can work together with the learners. Knowing the tools for 21st Century Learning is primordial to give quality courses.  Learning and teaching ...

How-To do it and who to do it?

I suggest, if possible, to do this by any teacher, educator on the beginning of a new school year: There are no special technical skills needed and it takes ONLY 5-10 minutes to show the learners how-to use this application! If there are summer camps where some of the learners are present, do it also and ask them to share it with their class over Social Medias, such as Facebook, Twitter and others…

Talk also to your System Administrator on School to install this FREE application on any used computer and tablets to have the same standard in the school! Your and your students #virtuallife (Internet) would become more secure…

===> Less stress to find trustworthy web sites is also more time for teaching and learning! And you will help the COMMUNITY to surf more secure also… <===

#eTwinning #Europe | Project-Based Learning in your Classroom | #EU #LEARNing2LEARN

#eTwinning #Europe | Project-Based Learning in your Classroom | #EU #LEARNing2LEARN | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
The Introducing Project-Based Learning in your Classroom course introduces you to the concept of project-based learning (PBL) and helps you to implement this pedagogical approach in your classroom by providing concrete examples, ideas and tools that can inspire and support you and your students to embark on a PBL learning journey.

We will be exploring three key challenges related to the implementation of PBL: how to get students to collaborate effectively, how to facilitate student-driven activities, and finally how to assess PBL in your classroom.

The course offers an introduction to these topics and provides you with a framework to engage with fellow teachers and other education stakeholders by sharing resources, experiences, ideas, etc. The goal of the course is to develop into a professional learning community discussing PBL even after the course has finished.

What should get be taught and learned more in 21st Century while using ICT? | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Possible instructions for educators on how they can work together with the learners. Knowing the tools for 21st Century Learning is primordial to give quality courses.

One very important knowledge who needs to get taught is “Critical Thinking”; it brings out also new ideas and the courage to become an engager and helps to try to build a better world in both worlds: “Real World” and “Virtual World” (Internet)!

Can YOU drive a car (and this also safely) ONLY by getting theoretical courses and advice? YOU would surprise me, seriously, a BIG LOL for that. So how YOU will expect that someone could surf secure with his computer as it is “visually seen” the “vehicle” with whom users are driving on the “Data High Way” (Internet)!???

There is a need for practice, how!?

Find out more ideas, critical thinking and practice:
