Connectivism – the knowledge of the connected individual

Connectivism – the knowledge of the connected individual | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Knowledge is everywhere. In a mobile phone, a fitness tracker and our brains. Not a science fiction film but the learning theory of connectivism.

Connectivism: Creating Learning Communities

Connectivism: Creating Learning Communities | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

The learning concept of connectivism understands learning according to the following eight principles [5. See Connectivism. (2013, July 2). In Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Retrieved 09:20, July 15, 2013]:

  • Learning and knowledge rests in diversity of opinions.
  • Learning is a process of connecting specialized nodes, or information sources.
  • Learning may reside in non-human appliances: learning can rest in a community, a network, or a database.
  • Learning is more critical than knowing.
  • Maintaining and nurturing connections is needed to facilitate continual learning.
  • Perceiving connections between fields, ideas and concepts is a core skill.
  • Currency – as accurate, up-to-date knowledge – is the intent of learning activities.
  • Decision-making is in itself a learning process. Choosing what to learn and the meaning of incoming information is seen through the lens of a shifting reality.

Qu'est-ce que le connectivisme ?

Qu'est-ce que le connectivisme ? | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Connectivism is one of my favorite learning theory to use in the classroom. As a  Career and Technology teacher we use technology and connectivity theory allows the students to discuss to various platforms to discuss and find answers on their own.  With this infographic it explain the different learning theories and connectivism, a theory that at least you have to try to implement for student engagement.
