Valoriser le processus d'apprentissage plutôt que le produit de l'apprentissage * 

"Ce serait plutôt cool qu'on se souvienne de moi pour avoir enseigné à quelqu'un « comment penser ».

Il s'avère que nous ne pouvons pas apprendre aux gens à penser, mais nous pouvons "enculturer" les dispositions qui permettent de penser. 

Les éducateurs qui réussissent à développer une culture de la pensée valorisent le processus d'apprentissage plutôt que le produit de l'apprentissage ; ils recherchent un apprentissage plus approfondi plutôt que la simple acquisition de connaissances. Le leadership de cette approche pédagogique exige de la patience, de la valorisation, du respect et de la confiance envers les gens. 

Le leadership est extrêmement important et montre que ce n'est pas la « saveur du mois », c'est qui nous sommes, et c'est ce que nous sommes. Cela nécessite une approche sur invitation. 

Une invitation est extraordinairement puissante.

What are the kind of things a 21st century teacher needs to know and be able to do? What about 21st century students? What education technology works, and what is a waste of time? What would a checklist for 21st century teaching look like?

Does ‘21st-century teaching’ even make sense to use as a phrase anymore? If not, do we just say ‘teaching’? Does that fit our needs to innovate our collective profession to meet a modern circumstance?

These are among the questions today’s teachers have to face daily–in the classroom, mass media, professional development, and more. These conversations can get complex, opinionated, stuffed with rhetoric, and downright overwhelming at times. Hi! 
I am a 21st century, how am I supposed to teach? What am I supposed to use in the classroom? I have had these kind of questions several times. In this article I've found a checklist of 10 things that todays' teachers should take into account in order to be a succesful 21st century teacher. The items i liked the most are:
1. My students have the opportunity to be creative--> SOmetimes classes become teacher-centered;however, the teacher must provide activities in which the creativity of students in challenged.
2.My students document and reflect on their learning--> nowadays teachers should include reflection in their classes since it is as important as the content. Teacher should provide students with steps and tips on how to reflect upon their own learning process.
3.My students are aware of how to be safe online and how to be good digital citizens--> Very important because it demostrates an adaptation to todays needs (which are totally differernt from society's needs ten years ago).

Part of the problem is the multitude of opinions and lack of clarity on exactly what it is an education should do. Debates about how to improve education will continue to rage because at a fundamental level participants don’t agree about why (or if) kids should go to school. Robinson firmly believes that creativity is a central element of what sets humans apart from other forms of life on earth and so educators’ mission should be to bring out the unique creative energy within each child.

Robinson believes education is “to enable students to understand the world around them, and the talents within them, so that they can become fulfilled individuals and active, compassionate citizens.” He doesn’t deny that learning information about the world is important, but he says it’s equally important for students to understand their own talents, motivations and passions if they are going to lead lives that satisfy them. The current system of conformity and compliance leaves no space for this type of self-exploration.

Hi!
How to be a good teacher? This is one of the most question teachers ask themselves very often. I think there is not one correct answer, but there several characteristics that succesful teachers share. I consider that reflection (that starts since you ask yourself "how to be a good teacher?") is key if you want to evolve into a better teacher every day, a transformational teacher. In this interesting article I found 6 important actions that good teachers do, the ones that  interested me the most are:
1. Constantly share your best practices--> Good teacher always give and receive feedback from their peers, this help them to learn different ways to deal with issues in the classroom.
2.Commit to classroom observations-->Good teachers know the benefits of observing their peers while they are teaching. They can learn what activities, strategies and skills to reply and what not to do.
3. Caring Beyond What You Teach--> Good teachers are aware of the fact that teaching is not only explaing academic content to students, it involves motivating and helping them when they need it. Teachers that go beyond just explaining content are the ones students respect and remember the most.

Strategies that target students’ metacognition—the ability to think about thinking—can close a gap that some students experience between how prepared they feel for a test and how prepared they actually are. In a new study, students in an introductory college statistics class who took a short online survey before each exam asking them to think about how they would prepare for it earned higher grades in the course than their peers—a third of a letter grade higher, on average.

 

This low-cost intervention helped students gain insight into their study strategies, boosting their metacognitive skills and giving them tools to be more independent learners.

We live primarily in a digital space. The structure of the territory first appears to us by means of the mediation of digital devices, ones predominately owned by large multinational corporations. This situation implies a huge risk – that of remaining passive while private companies organize and develop these spaces for us. How might we avoid this risk ? Is it possible, in the digital age, for us to be central to the production of the spaces in which we live ? How might literature constitute a tool for the production of the spatial imaginary that enables us to reappropriate the places and territories managed by the information industry ? This paper addesses these questions and attempts to show, on the basis of the theory of editorialization, how writing can be a way of producing the space in which we live.

If you’re ever wanted to make something awesome, but thought that you just didn’t have the right tools to do so, this soda fountain by “The Wrench” could provide the needed inspiration. 

The project uses an Arduino Nano to control a small air pump via a relay, which turns on when a glass is the correct dispensing position. This pushes air into a sealed soda bottle, and soda is pushed out of another tube to equalize the pressure.

How blockchain can help
The report explains how blockchain technology can be used to generate and store sensitive personal records online or on mobile apps - such as birth certificates, driving licences or professional qualifications - for instant proof of identification. Universities can create degree certificates that can be shared by graduates with prospective employers at the touch of a button. They can be instantly verified, with no need to run a credentials check with a third party. It frees us all from the time-consuming, inefficient, paper-based credentials system, saving time and money, improving efficiencies and helping to eliminate fraud.

These systems are already in use. Here at PwC, we have partnered with, among others, the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a major European university to develop our Smart Credentials blockchain platform. It shares the credentials of chartered accountants and technology graduates in a ‘digital wallet’, saving a huge amount of time and money in the verification process, while combating fraud. Students can also add any number of documents to it, from their birth certificates to a sporting qualification, which they can control and share. Going forward, we plan to scale our experience of Smart Credentials in a deeper transformational context, working with aligned service providers covering technology and resourcing, to build what is effectively an internet of credentials.

Is critical thinking for kids? Absolutely! The art of critical thinking begins in childhood. What kind of thinker is your child?  Does he believe everything on TV?  Does she always figure out how to get what she wants? 

Does he ask questions?  Does she go along with what her friends suggest?  You can help develop your child’s critical thinking skills by learning a few key guidelines!

Whether your child is just starting summer vacation or in the midst of the school year, parents can help keep minds active in fun ways. Critical thinking skills don’t fully develop until adolescence, but the foundations for good thinking develop in younger children.

The nonprofit Foundation for Critical Thinking cultivates core intellectual virtues that lead to fair-minded thinking.  They have identified three ways K-6 children typically think.

The current economy is centered on the need for innovation, with most workplaces in a constant state of evolution. The leaders of the present and the future need the ability to envision that change or, at least, the to adapt quickly and pivot when it is thrust upon them. That is why innovation in education is more important now than ever before.

To innovate is to look beyond what we are currently doing and develop a novel idea that helps us to do our job in a new way. The purpose of any invention, therefore, is to create something different from what we have been doing, be it in quality or quantity or both. To produce a considerable, transformative effect, the innovation must be put to work, which requires prompt diffusion and large-scale implementation.

Innovation is generally understood as “the successful introduction of a new thing or method” In essence, “innovation seems to have two sub components. First, there is the idea or item which is novel to a particular individual or group and, second, there is the change which results from the adoption of the object or idea”. Thus, innovation requires three major steps: an idea, its implementation, and the outcome that results from the execution of the idea and produces a change.

 

In education, innovation can appear as a new pedagogic theory, methodological approach, teaching technique, instructional tool, learning process or institutional structure that, when implemented, produces a significant change in teaching and learning, which leads to better student learning. So, innovations in education are intended to raise productivity and efficiency of learning and/or improve learning quality.

Au sens strict du terme, il n’y a plus d’enseignant, pas de cours, pas de programme, rien que des cas concrets à résoudre en trouvant soi-même la solution ou en s’associant à d’autres élèves. Cette pédagogie met l’accent sur le comportement, les capacités à travailler à plusieurs et à apprendre très vite en autonomie.

Pour Romain Martin, vice-recteur pour les affaires académiques de l’Université du Luxembourg, «la principale erreur consiste à se focaliser sur les technologies elles-mêmes. Il ne faut pas simplement regarder l’outil, mais comment ces outils sont utilisés.» Une désacralisation des technologies pourtant au cœur des enjeux, au profit d’une démarche pédagogique nouvelle. La tendance est ainsi à l’«adaptive learning».

When students are provided consistent opportunities to develop and discuss complex questions, they’re empowered with knowledge, curiosity, and intellectual courage. We can make our classrooms places that encourage students to keep asking questions—which are the foundation of learning.

CREATING A CLIMATE FOR QUESTIONING
Modeling questioning strategies that get all students involved allows students to develop confidence in their own ability to craft meaningful questions and share their responses. We also need to establish classroom procedures for respectful dialogue so that students feel safe in sharing their thinking with their peers.

I indirectly model questioning strategies by carefully considering the questions I ask. I set up the year with a few questions that are then discussed throughout the year. Through seminar discussions and reflective writing in the spring, for example, I use questions such as “How does where you live impact how you live?,” “How do humans continue to progress in a diverse world?,” and “How does constructive conversation cultivate empathy and promote participation in local and global communities?” to discuss content as well as to make connections to the world.

Students consider these questions as they participate in the Spotlight Challenge, a design thinking project I created to facilitate opportunities for students to conduct research, craft speeches, and call their peers to action. Consistently making these connections helps create a climate in which students become accustomed to questioning everything.
