The Power of the 4Cs: The Foundation for Creating a Gold Standard for Project Based Learning (PBL)

The Power of the 4Cs: The Foundation for Creating a Gold Standard for Project Based Learning (PBL) | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Creating a gold-standard for Project Based Learning and then reaching that standard may seem to be a bit like scaling a mountain - at first glance-difficult, very risky, and somewhat mysterious. However, even the tallest mountains can be climbed if you have the right knowledge, skills, tools, and support—and perhaps a little courage.  The same can be said for Project Based Learning. We at the Partnership for 21st Century Skills think a lot about skills - so let’s explore the skills that are needed.

Social Learning fills the empty barrels of Enterprise 2.0

Social Learning fills the empty barrels of Enterprise 2.0 | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
In this article, taken from "Enterprise 2.0 - French Touch" white book,Frederic Domon explains that 2.0 technologies are enabling technologies that connect us with each other, facilitating communication and collaboration.

Learning is social by nature

Without going all the way back to the theories of Vygotsky or Albert Bandura, the simplest way to explain social learning is perhaps to look at the work of Richard J. Legers (Harvard Graduate School of Education), who has shown that one of the most important factors for success in higher education is a student’s ability to form and/or participate in small study groups. In comparison to those who had worked alone, those students who had studied in a group, even only once a week, were more involved and better prepared. The students from these groups were able to ask questions to resolve uncertainties and improve their own understanding of the subject by hearing the answers to other students’ questions.

===> The most powerful element was the ability to play the role of teacher to other students, as it has been shown that the best way to learn is to teach. <===

5E Cycle Integrates 21st Century Skills

5E Cycle Integrates 21st Century Skills | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

“Many school focus too much on achievement… (they need) to create opportunities for young people develop their learning muscles and their learning stamina through working on real problems… to reflect on and manage their own learning.” by Guy Claxton

The 5E model was developed by The Biological Science Curriculum Study (BSCS). The 5Es represent the five stages of a sequence for teaching and learning: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaboration and Evaluate. The 5E model easily incorporates all 21st century skills (4c’s- create, critically think, communicate and collaborate) along with technology.
