Si les Raspberry Pi ont fait du chemin depuis le tout premier modèle de 2012, leur principe est resté le même : de petits ordinateurs à tout faire très bon marché. Le Raspberry Pi 5 tout juste dévoilé répond à ces critères en y ajoutant un surcroît de puissance.

Quatre ans après un Raspberry Pi 4 qui a connu un très gros succès (en partie dopé par la crise sanitaire), le Raspberry Pi 5 se doit de ne pas décevoir ! La fondation qui développe et produit l’ordinateur a mis les petits plats dans les grands, en promettant des performances CPU et GPU de deux à trois fois plus élevées que sur le précédent modèle, avec deux fois plus de mémoire et de bande passante pour les entrées/sorties.

Surprise! Details of the Raspberry Pi 5 are out, and while you can't get your hands on a board just yet, you can bask in the new features and improvements.

At the top of them is a new chip, designed in‑house in Cambridge, UK. 

The Broadcom BCM2712 quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 processor is three generations ahead of the one used in the Raspberry Pi 4, and is not only faster than the old chip -- between two and three times faster -- but it also consumes less power, which in turn should mean it runs cooler.

Die Raspberry Foundation erweitert das Sortiment an Bastelrechnern um ein weiteres Produkt. Das Raspberry Pi Pico W ist ein kleiner und günstiger Microcontroller für diverse Projekte. Das Platinendesign lehnt sich an das Raspberry Pi Pico an. Allerdings unterstützt das Pico W 2,4-GHz-WLAN über einen Onboard-Chip. Parallel dazu gibt es den Pico künftig auch als H-Variante mit bereits vorinstallierten GPIO-Steckverbindern. Damit sind Bastelprojekte ganz ohne zusätzliche Lötarbeit möglich.

Earlier this year Google introduced the AIY voice project, which allowed makers to turn a Raspberry Pi into a voice-controlled assistant, using the Google Assistant SDK.

The company has now launched the AIY (AI yourself) Vision Kit that lets you turn Raspberry Pi equipment into an image-recognition device. The kit is powered by Google's TensorFlow machine-learning models and will soon gain an accompanying Android app for controlling the device.

According to Google, Vision Kit features "on-device neural network acceleration", allowing a Raspberry Pi-based box to do computer vision without processing in the cloud. The AIY Voice Kit relies on the cloud for natural-language processing.

As with the AIY Voice Kit, makers will need to provide their own Raspberry Pi Zero W, a Raspberry Pi camera, a 4GB SD card, and power supply. The Vision Kit itself includes the VisionBonnet accessory board, cables, the cardboard box and frame, lens equipment, and a privacy LED to tell others when the camera is on.

The VisionBonnet board was developed by Google and is powered by Intel's Movidius MA2450 vision processing chip. This chip is the secret sauce of the Vision Kit.

Wer sich mit künstlicher Intelligenz in Form von Machine Learning oder der zurzeit fokussierten Ausprägung Deep Learning beschäftigt, stößt mit betagten Familienrechnern schnell an Grenzen. Selbst aktuelle Geräte mit acht oder mehr Kernen eignen sich nicht für die Ausführung hunderter paralleler Rechenoperationen, wie sie für künstliche neuronale Netze erforderlich sind.

Soll der KI-Rechner aber auch noch mobil und handlich wie ein Raspberry Pi sein - etwa, weil er autonomes Fahren eines Roboter-Autos oder die Hinderniserkennung für eine Drohne unterstützen soll -, hilft selbst der Rechner des Juniors nicht mehr weiter. Hier ist Spezial-Hardware gefragt.

Technische Daten zum Jetson Nano

Eine Möglichkeit für solche Fälle ist der Jetson Nano von Nvidia. Das Unternehmen, das für leistungsfähige Grafikkarten steht, bietet mit seinen Jetson-Systemen Nano, TX2 und Xavier KI-Systeme in verschiedenen Größenordnungen und Preisklassen an. Der Nano ist das Einsteigermodell und basiert auf Nvidias Maxwell-GPU mit 128 Nvidia-Cuda-Recheneinheiten.

Google is increasingly focusing on neural networks and artificial intelligence to solve problems in search, image processing, and other areas of computing. It’s also doing what it can to foster interest in artificial intelligence among the developer and DIY communities with initiatives like “AIY Projects,” which stands for artificial intelligence yourself. Google has announced a new AIY hardware project to help you experiment with computer vision and object recognition.

This is the second release as part of AIY Projects. The first one was the AIY Voice Kit, which was based on a project from a Raspberry Pi enthusiast magazine called MagPi. The new AIY Vision Kit has a very similar vibe. It too is based on a Raspberry Pi (See on Amazon) and comes with a simple cardboard enclosure. It certainly doesn’t look fancy, but it can do some very fancy things. Although, the $45 kit doesn’t come with everything you need.

The AIY Vision Kit includes a cardboard enclosure, a button, a speaker, a pair of camera lenses, the AI board, and various bits of wire and connectors. You need to add a Raspberry Pi Zero, a Raspberry Pi camera, an SD card, and a power supply. The Raspberry Pi camera is the most expensive of those components at around $30. The Zero itself is only $5, but it doesn’t need a lot of power. All the cool computer vision features are controlled by the included VisionBonnet board.
