Yuga Labs, the creator of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT, has announced it is raising $450 million at a $4 billion valuation. The NFT company said the funds would be used to scale its team and operations, which it confirmed includes a new metaverse project called Otherside.

The metaverse project, Otherside, will integrate avatars from a number of NFT projects, including BAYC. Earlier this week, Yuga Labs tweeted a teaser that a metaverse project powered by its new ape-themed crypto coin, Ape Coin was in the works.

Among the investors are Andreessen Horowitz along with gaming studio Animoca Brands and cryptofirms FTX which are both already associated with YugaLabs.

Google, Samsung, Adidas as well as celebrities such as Colin Kaepernick, Shaquille O' Neal, Steve Aoki, and Timbaland among others also invested in the funding round.

Les métavers offrent la possibilité de se connecter virtuellement avec des personnes physiques du monde entier, dans des représentations de n’importe quel univers, de manière beaucoup plus disruptive et immersive qu’une visioconférence Zoom. Les opportunités commerciales pour les marques sont très vite apparues évidentes.

Actuellement, ce sont les développeurs qui mènent encore le jeu. Ils construisent les mondes virtuels qui vont offrir tout ce que l’on peut désirer, où les marques s'entrechoquent et où les moyens de divertissement fusionnent. Attirés par un potentiel commercial à priori illimité, des entreprises de tous bords s’empressent d’annoncer leur intention de rejoindre ces métavers.

The amount of scams and fraud in the NFT space is overwhelming," the internal letter, which over 400 employees have signed, reads. "We implore you to reconsider."

Indeed, the NFT space is rife with shady dealings and theft. In January, OpenSea, which bills itself as "world's first and largest NFT marketplace," admitted that "over 80%" of NFTs minted using its free minting tool "were plagiarized works, fake collections, and spam.

The UK tax department has seized three non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as part of an investigation into a suspected VAT fraud scheme involving 250 fake companies.

HM Revenue and Customs said on Monday it had seized the NFTs and arrested three people on suspicion of attempting to defraud it out of £1.4m. It is the first time a UK law enforcement agency has seized an NFT.

Ari Meilich was an early pioneer in the metaverse by building Decentraland, along with Esteban Ordano and their team, the first decentralized virtual reality space in 2017. Through a $24 million initial coin offering, the proceeds went toward creating a unique virtual reality experience. The project enabled users to build a wide array of interactive experiences, ranging from playing video games to building cities and attending live events. 

Meilich could have been a Mark Zuckerberg and owned Decentraland. Instead, he took a brave and innovative approach. The ownership was more akin to a Kibbutz or commune, in which the collective society can own a piece. 

People may purchase empty land parcels within the Decentraland environment using MANA, the accepted cryptocurrency used for payments. Instead of going into the pockets of the owner of the site, the money is placed into the community’s account. As it's grown and people acquire land, there are peer-to-peer transactions, such as the recent purchase of space on Decentraland by Andrew Kiguel, CEO of Tokens.com for $2.5 million. As of January 2022, MANA is valued at around $2.96 with a market cap of over $5 billion.

Les spéculations vont bon train sur les places de marché NFT. Pourtant, les risques de se faire avoir sont nombreux, et même de plus en plus. Voici quelques vérités qui font mal.
Le marché des NFT, ces objets de collection virtuels, est en pleine ébullition. What are NFTs?
According to the Merriam-Webster definition, a nonfungible token (NFT) is a unique digital identifier which cannot be copied, substituted or subdivided. Once created, the NFT is then recorded in a blockchain which is used to certify its authenticity and ownership. An NFT is not a tangible object but rather a form of proof that shows ownership and purchase. These blockchain-based tokens can represent artwork, digital content, media or even event tickets. An NFT is an irrevocable digital certificate of ownership and authenticity for a digital or physical asset.

NFTs have unique digital identifiers and are stored on a blockchain, a system that is used to keep a record of transactions made in bitcoin or some type of cryptocurrency. NFT records are kept across multiple computers that are linked in a network and through the blockchain, can be sold or traded. NFTs are created through a process called “minting,” in which they convert digital files into a cryptocurrency collectible. The process of minting is how NFTs are uploaded to the blockchain.

No doubt you’ve been unfortunate enough to hear all the hype about NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens).

If you don’t understand what they are, don’t feel too bad about it. The truth is that many people don’t understand what NFTs are. It’s not that people are dumb, but rather that they’re too intelligent.

The platform which sold an NFT of Jack Dorsey's first tweet for $2.9 million has halted most transactions because people were selling tokens of content that did not belong to them, its founder said, calling this a "fundamental problem" in the fast-growing digital assets market.

Comment gagner de l’argent avec un NFT, ces «œuvres» digitales uniques? En faisant croire à cette communauté d’acheteurs très dynamique que la valeur du NFT n’a cessé d’augmenter au gré des acquisitions et des cessions.

Quitte à devoir créer artificiellement des achats et des ventes pour faire croire à un réel intérêt pour ces nouveaux objets de collection.
