Man kennt das aus dem Krimi: Ein paar Haare am Tatort können ausreichen, um Ermittler auf die Spur der Täter zu bringen. Eine DNA-Analyse liefert inzwischen selbst dann gute Ergebnisse, wenn es nur sehr wenig oder stark beschädigtes Erbmaterial in der Haarprobe gibt. Allerdings gibt es das Problem, dass die DNA-Moleküle abhängig von Umwelteinflüssen rasch zersetzt werden. Proteine dagegen sind vielfach robuster und bleiben über längere Zeiträume erhalten. Und auch bei ihnen gibt es individuelle Unterschiede - bei den einzelnen Aminosäuren.

Chalk up another crime solved to modern forensics.

Ancient documents say that in 1155BC members of his harem attempted to kill him as part of a palace coup but it was never clear whether the assassination was successful. Some say it was, while other accounts at the time imply the ancient Pharaoh survived the attack, at least for a short while.

Scans of Ramesses III revealed a deep, 2.7 inch (7cm) wide wound to the throat just under the larynx.

Medical scientists say it was probably caused by a sharp blade and could have caused immediate death.

It is unsure whether the assasination was sucsessful immediately. They say he may have survived for a short while.

According to this article, he had a deep wide wound to the throat. I think that the Ancient Egyptian King was assassinated/ slit on the throat by a royal coup.
