On Thursday, BeagleBoard unveiled PocketBeagle, a tiny, open source, USB key fob computer that works as a development board for both beginners and professionals.

PocketBeagle—which, at 35 x 56 x 5 mm, is smaller than a credit card—features a simple, open source hardware design, and a catalog-available, well-documented processor, according to a press release. This board can replace some costly hardware, and also offers a solution for rapid prototyping without slowing the path to production, which can lower risk as well.

This low-cost Linux computer offers "tremendous expansibility," according to the release. The company also offers the chance to learn programming from online educators.

For hobbyists, "PocketBeagle is small and flexible enough to fit in gaming, 3D printing, robotics or other electronics projects; and affordable enough to dedicate one to live permanently in each of those different projects," according to the release.

"PocketBeagle not only includes a 1-GHz processor, but also industrial-oriented peripherals and microcontrollers optimized for interfacing to the physical world," the release stated. This could also make it a good option for Internet of Things (IoT) experiments, especially in businesses.

Parallella

Parallella | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
Supercomputing for everyone

Great news, the Parallella is now a real computer!! The gigabit ethernet port is working and the full Ubuntu desktop version is up and running! We had some scary moments this week, but in the end everything worked out. Sometimes it’s really worth considering the old advice “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.  Amazing how the most innocent of design changes can cause such major headaches at times…

Build your own supercomputer: First $99 Parallella boards ship

Build your own supercomputer: First $99 Parallella boards ship | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
Who says you need millions for a supercomputer? Not Adapteva, which has started shipping its $99 Parallella single-board parallel processing board.
Gust MEES's insight:

Linux is the top supercomputer operating system. But while you can build your own Linux supercomputer using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, even with just Raspberry Pi boards,  these don't natively support massively parallel computing — the cornerstone of modern supercomputing. That's where Adapteva, with its $99 Parallella parallel processing single-board supercomputer, comes in.
