Améliorer la santé de la conversation”. Voici comment Twitter vante les mérites de sa toute dernière acquisition. Il s’agit de Fabula AI, une start-up basée à Londres spécialisée dans l’analyse approfondie des graphes en utilisant l'apprentissage automatique. Twitter compte s’appuyer sur cette technologie pour améliorer sa lutte contre les infox et le spam notamment en extrayant des signaux à partir des relations et interactions détectées dans le graphe. Un outil qui devrait s’avérer primordial alors que les Etats-Unis s’acheminent vers la campagne pour l’élection présidentielle de 2020. 

L’acquisition de Fabula s’apparente davantage à une recrutement de talents puisque l’équipe va rejoindre le groupe Cortex chez Twitter qui développe les solutions de machine learning pour le réseau social. Michael Bronstein, le cofondateur de la start-up pilotera les travaux sur l’apprentissage profond des graphes. Twitter n’a pas communiqué les détails financiers de l’acquisition de Fabula AI. (Eureka Presse)

Facebook has acquired a German company called Fayteq that builds software add-ons for video editing that can remove and add whole objects from captured video using computer vision. The acquisition was first reported by a German startup publication (via Variety) and confirmed to TechCrunch, and could be useful as Facebook pursues additional video filter creation technology, both for its live streaming efforts, and for platforms like Instagram Stories.

Of course, being able to add objects to live video and remove them or cover them over on the fly is also something that can be put to interesting use in the emerging field of augmented reality. Facebook launched an AR platform for its built-in camera feature in April at this year’s F8, with the aim of encouraging developers to build AR experiences for use in Facebook on smartphones, which Mark Zuckerberg has said will be “the first augmented reality platform that becomes mainstream.”

Facebook has acquired CrowdTangle, a four-year-old tool used by publishers like Vox, BuzzFeed, and Business Insider to track how their content is shared on social media.

The two companies announced the deal on Friday for an undisclosed sum. CrowdTangle had raised $2.2 million in funding from investors like Betaworks and Advancit Capital.

Facebook said it acquired visual shopping and artificial intelligence startup GrokStyle in a move to bolster the social-media company’s own AI work.

GrokStyle’s technology, which was integrated into Ikea’s mobile app, was simple in practice. A user takes a picture of a piece of furniture and the technology would match it to similar products that could be purchased online. On its website, GrokStyle said it is “winding down” its business, but that it is “moving on as a team” along with its technology. The company didn’t disclose it’s joining (FB, +0.58%) Facebook.

“We are excited to welcome GrokStyle to Facebook,” Facebook spokeswoman Vanessa Chan said in a statement. “Their team and technology will contribute to our AI capabilities.” She declined to disclose a purchase price.
