What was the original brief from the FileMaker team? We were tasked with transforming the current FileMaker brand into something that accurately represents its business offerings, customers and values. As FileMaker acknowledges its rich history and continues to look towards the future, it is essential that the brand signals the start of a new chapter. This new offering led FileMaker to reevaluate its brand positioning and identity.

Introducing join::table... Bringing FileMaker Developers and Non-Profits Together. Saving the world one database at a time, with your help.... What is join::table?
We are an organization created to assist FileMaker developers in doing pro bono work for non-profit organizations and public schools (through inspiration, guidance and support).
join::table acts as a “match-maker” between interested FileMaker developers and needful non-profits and schools. Non-profits can apply to be considered for a pro bono project and pre-screened FileMaker developers can sign up to volunteer to be matched with a non-profit in need.

At DevCon this morning (2019 Aug 6), CEO Brad Freitag announced that FileMaker is rebranding as Claris.
The presentation concluded with their new mission statement, “Power to the Problem Solvers.”
We couldn’t be more excited about this change.

Claris’ VP of worldwide marketing and customer success shares story of FileMaker’s rebirth as Claris
Large or small, a company that decides to change its identity faces a massive undertaking.
The time and effort required means the entire company and product vision must be fully aligned, with the full team excited for and passionate about the undertaking. Point being, it’s not a choice made lightly, particularly if you are one of those companies that’s been around long enough to know exactly what you’re getting into.
Our brand, FileMaker, is one that carries so much rich history. The company created and defined the Workplace Innovation Platform and has grown to over 50,000 customers and more than one million end-users.
There was only one problem: FileMaker, with its component names of “File” and “Maker,” was simply too specific to span the customer experiences that we want to create in our next 20 years.
For that reason, we decided to choose a new identity. We chose the name Claris for several reasons.

What Are Script Parameters? Numerous benefits include writing fewer scripts, increased code reusability, and improved coding organization.
For example, you can create a Sales Order record in your FileMaker solution. You can create a Sales Order from a few different contexts in your solution, such as from a Customer record, from a previous Sales Order, or from a cancelled Order. Maybe you need to know the corresponding customer for this order, or maybe you need to know shipping address. By passing script parameters you can use a single script to create a Sales Order from various contexts without having to write and maintain a separate script.

One of the largest announcements to come out of the FileMaker Developer Conference 2018, was the rebranding of FileMaker as a “Workplace Innovation Platform”.
The main objective of this rebrand circulates around not only making FileMaker more accessible to the average user, but better defining what it is that FileMaker can do, and who it is for.
