Google AdWords launches significant changes for mobile ads and maps

The changes and additions have been announced at yesterday’s Google Performance Summit, and include expanded description lines, responsive display ads to fit different devices and formats, more customized bidding options, and pilot features for Google Maps which allow advertisers to introduce more information about their businesses.

A lui tout seul, le tourisme aurait ainsi représenté un tiers des ventes en ligne (18, 3 milliards d’€). A titre d’information, et pour mieux se faire une idée, l’e-commerce en France représenterait plus de 60 milliards d’€ en 2015.

Travel marketers, take note: On Tuesday, Google took the wraps off of new local search ads on Google Maps.
Ads for relevant destinations will be inserted at the bottom of turn-by-turn navigation on user smartphones, with a button that says “add stop?”
Advertisers with physical business locations will be able to highlight where they are when Google users search for things like “hotel” or “tours”.

Lors de la publication de Tourisme 2.0 en 2007, je décrivais le cycle du voyage en cinq phases (Préparation, recherche, comparaison, achat et socialisation). En 9 ans, l’écosystème du voyage a évolué, de nouveaux acteurs sont entrés sur le marché et les purs players ont saisi l’opportunité de gagner des parts de marché dans le domaine du tourisme et, plus récemment, de migrer d’un modèle d’affaires du CPC au CPA (les réservations). Comme le souligne Pablo Delgado dans son article de blog du 4 mai 2016 on assiste à une convergence de tous les acteurs sur toutes les phases du cycle des voyages.

A raft of acquisitions and digital developments is helping the French chain to become a key player in industry consolidation and a serial entrepreneur has been appointed to help.
With classic French élan AccorHotels is making it absolutely clear that it is on song with leisure industry trends. The latest senior appointment at Europe’s largest hotels group (3,900 hotels) is that of serial digital entrepreneur Tribault Viort (43) as chief disruption (sic) and growth officer.

Facebook Plans to Boost its Translations Using Neural Networks This Year

Facebook is working to get significantly better at automatically translating updates from friends not written in your native language.


The social network plans to roll out a new translation system later this year. It is based on artificial neural networks, an approach to machine learning that has recently caused Facebook and others to invest heavily in artificial intelligence (see "10 Breakthrough Technologies 2013: Deep Learning").

Direct bookings 9% more profitable for hotels, “billboard effect” a myth

Based on analysis provided by Kalibri Labs, direct brand.com bookings continue to be significantly more profitable than OTA bookings. And there is only a slight likelihood (7 percent) that a consumer will visit an OTA and then return to brand.com to book.
