Social Thinking’s Intellectual Property Handy Decision-Tree Guidelines

Social Thinking’s Intellectual Property Handy Decision-Tree Guidelines | Engaging Therapeutic Resources and Activities | Scoop.it
Over the years it has been exciting to watch the response of our community to the frameworks, concepts, strategies, and lessons created by Social Thinking. We always have, and continue to, encourage parents and professionals to read our core materials, use the teaching tools we offer, and as is relevant, modify them to meet the needs of the individuals you inspire and teach. When you see a program/service, product, strategy, or lesson created by Social Thinking we want it to mean something. We want it to reflect the immeasurable amounts of energy, thought, and consideration that went into it. So, alongside us encouraging the creative minds of people in the Social Thinking community, we have another, equally important goal: to maintain and protect the integrity and fidelity of the content we create. It’s also important to us that when individuals see the name “Social Thinking” or “Superflex” or “We Thinkers!” (or any other name associated with programs, curricula or tools we’ve developed) being used by others outside our company, our community knows they are representing our work in the manner in which it was designed to be taught. As a result, we created guidelines that explain the use of the Social Thinking trademarks, our name and how our materials can and cannot be used and when written permission from us is needed. You can download this brochure along with other helpful information at our website’s Intellectual Property page. www.socialthinking.com/IP
Steve Whitmore's insight:
This resource should make people pause and make sure they are appropriately citing materials as they post pieces on the web or use materials on-line. It is important to show respect for the creators.

7 Lateral Thinking Questions to Promote Out-of-the-Box Thinking

7 Lateral Thinking Questions to Promote Out-of-the-Box Thinking | Engaging Therapeutic Resources and Activities | Scoop.it
The term “lateral thinking” was coined in 1967 by physician and inventor Edward de Bono, to describe a kind of out-of-the-box reasoning and critical analysis of scenarios that call for more than just typical step-by-step logic to solve. Lateral thinking is related to creative problem solving and critical thinking, all valuable skills to have, and […]

At Home with PZ | Project Zero- Cultures of Thinking

At Home with PZ | Project Zero- Cultures of Thinking | Engaging Therapeutic Resources and Activities | Scoop.it
At this time when so many of us suddenly find ourselves teaching in unfamiliar contexts (we used to teach in classrooms—now we guide learners from a distance; we used to send our children off to school—now they’re home all day), the question “How can I support learning?” looms large. The “At Home with PZ” toolbox was developed to help you answer that question. The activities you’ll find here provide ways to adapt Project Zero strategies and frameworks for use in different settings: for virtual classrooms and for home learning; guided by a teacher working remotely or by a parent or caregiver in person. Some can be done outdoors, some indoors, and some are appropriate for either. The activities are sorted into two types: tools for learning (the toolbox) and Thinking Routines (thinking bubbles). Each activity offers variations for different age groups as well as for the adult facilitation needed so students could work alone, or, as part of a pair, group, or virtual classroom. We hope that these activities, specially curated by PZ researchers, spark creative solutions for your context.

GETTING STARTED WITH GREEN SCREEN: DISTANCE LEARNING

During the course of the past 8+ weeks of COVID 19 Stay-At-Home orders, many therapists across the country have switched to teletherapy formats via Zoom, Google Meet, Theraplatform, Go-To Meetings, and Microsoft Teams. Using a green screen has been the best tool that I have found in pediatric teletherapy. Green screen allows children to maintain attention and have a high level of interaction with their speech language pathologist. I am primarily using Zoom as my video conferencing platform. This video also shows how to use Google Meet with a green screen as well. I have had great success using these methods. My greatest hope is that tele-therapy practices become a new wave of therapy delivery long past COVID 19 in order to reach rural homes and individuals who otherwise would not be able to receive therapy services. #zoom #greenscreen #distancelearning

The power of presence: Our quest for the right mix of social presence in online courses

The power of presence: Our quest for the right mix of social presence in online courses | Engaging Therapeutic Resources and Activities | Scoop.it
Social presence theory explains how people present themselves as “real” through a communication medium and is a popular construct used to describe how people socially interact in online courses. Because of its intuitive appeal, educators—including ourselves—have experimented with different ways to establish social presence in their online courses. Over the years we’ve tried many strategies—from rich threaded discussions to personal one-on-one emails to digital stories to using social networking tools like Twitter. Over time, we began questioning how students perceive all of the strategies we use (in other words, what strategies were leading to the most bang for our buck). This case study shares the story of our quest for the social presence grail—from the strategies we use in our courses, to our research on students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of these strategies.

This article discusses how to build in social presence into a course.
