The Central Okanagan Foundation is about empowerment and relevance. We are synonymous with the handing down through generations of the actionable and fulfilling gift of giving.
This we believe to be the true definition of a legacy. We are not about donations alone. Instead, our true power is in entrusting future generations to make a difference themselves to their community, relevant to their times and their community’s needs.
The Central Okanagan Foundation provides ongoing support to the charitable sector. We provide funding for charitable projects that benefit our community. We can only accomplish this with the financial support of our donors. Only you can help us make a difference.
As community foundations we are registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. As a tax-exempt public foundations we are publicly accountable for the funds we manage and can provide tax receipts for gifts received. Short Biography: William Rees has taught at the University of British Columbia’s School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) since 1969-70. He founded SCARP’s ‘Environment and Resource Planning’ concentration and from 1994 to 1999 served as director of the School.
Prof Rees’ teaching and research focus on the public policy and planning implications of global environmental trends and the necessary ecological conditions for sustainable socioeconomic development. Much of this work is in the realm of human ecology and ecological economics where Prof Rees is best known as the originator of ‘ecological footprint analysis.’ Dr Rees’ book on this method, Our Ecological Footprint (1996, co-authored with then PhD student Mathis Wackernagel)

Sometime circus strongman, underground press editor, lighthouse keeper and bookseller, Jon is the author of the ground breaking ‘The Fourth Pillar of Sustainability: culture’s essential role in public planning’ (Common Ground, 01) and is one of Australia’s leading commentators on cultural policy. ‘Fourth pillar thinking’ has spread worldwide, with Jon making presentations in the USA, Canada, Spain and New Zealand.
He is the Resident Cultural Analyst with the Cultural Development Network of Victoria and has been Director of Community Music Victoria (01-08), a Fellow of the Community Cultural Development Board (Australia Council) (04-05), Director of the Australian Centre of the International Theatre Institute (91-98), Director of the Community Arts Board of the Australia Council (82-87) and was a founding member of Circus Oz and the Australian Performing Group (Pram Factory).

Tinhorn Creek Vineyards adds to its sustainability practices by becoming the first Canadian winery to complete the Climate Smart program and offset their carbon footprint. Climate Smart, launched in 2007 and similar to other programs world-wide, teaches business principals to measure, reduce and offset their carbon footprint.
