Google Classroom Tip #16: Handling Student Discipline

Google Classroom Tip #16: Handling Student Discipline | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it
Spread the loveNobodies perfect, and this includes your students. From time to time, they will test limits, question your authority, or flat out incite a riot in the classroom. As a teacher, if you want to manage your classroom successfully, you have to learn how to handle student discipline when misbehavior occurs. If you don’t, you will spend most of your instructional time redirecting bad behavior, robbing compliant students of their educations. In this tip, we will discuss how you can use Google Classroom to manage the student discipline process. Discipline Forms – Create discipline forms using Google Forms which …
Gerald Carey's insight:
This is number 16 in a series of posts about using templates to help with your teaching. This post contains templates for discipline forms, logs or referrals that can then be emailed to parents or administration. Seems a little clunky but if you don't have a Learner Management System in your school, these forms (and others in the series) might be a worthwhile substitute.

Google Slides changed the presentation world by giving a solution that was free. Slides has evolved a lot over the years, but there’s still a lot many users don’t know. This post contains 20 features that every Slide user should know about.
Gerald Carey's insight:
This is not a bad set of features. There are some that I have seen before (e.g. changing the master slide) but others I was not aware of such as trimming the length of an added video, import slides and autoplay videos. It is short but still has 'how-to' steps clearly set out.

Try a Simple Speaking Assessment to Close the Semester

Try a Simple Speaking Assessment to Close the Semester | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it
Around the end of the semester, I like to use a simple speaking activity that accomplishes several things at once.
Gerald Carey's insight:
This activity is at the end of the year as a way of summarising the year's activities. The teacher (Ariel Sacks) gets students to review their work for the year and then give an informal speech on something they have learned. Google Docs is mentioned as one source of information that students could review - it could be notes, assignments, presentations. There, of course, could be other sources. Because students are asked to focus on one thing and to be honest in their approach, it also looks like a great way to assess your impact as a teacher.
