Street Shooter - An Interview with Mary Ellen Mark (1987) | ASX | Urban Landscapes | Scoop.it
It was the early Sixties. Mary Ellen Mark was a graduate student, studying painting at the University of Pennsylvania. On a whim, she decided to take a course in photography. She picked up a Leica.
Mary E. Martin's curator insight, July 16, 2015 8:08 PM

Interesting article, In this interview of the street photographer, Mary Ellen Mark, it is noted that early in her career she switched from painting to photography and never looked back. I'm always fascinated when I hear that an artist has switched from one mode of expression to another. It brings to mind the words of the famous photographer Henri Cartier Bresson who said that photography was reactive and drawing was meditative. That notion has stuck in my mind so much so that I think I will write a blog very soon to explore whether that is so. http://maryemartintrilogies.com/blog
