Tory leadership hopefuls: where they stand on Brexit | Press coverage | Scoop.it
How and when to leave the EU is becoming the defining issue in the race to succeed Theresa May
ukandeu's insight:

“In effect, any PM who pushed for no-deal would see their government collapse in the autumn and risk a general election where there would be a significant chance that Labour would end up in government before the end of the year,” John Curtice, an election expert and professor of politics at Strathclyde University, said during a debate on Brexit by academics in London last month.

Rory Stewart can’t help but tell the truth – that’s why he has no chance in the Tory leadership race | Press coverage | Scoop.it
From the big tent home of London’s most famous comedy festival, Rory Stewart launched the only Tory leadership campaign that wasn’t a complete joke. For the first time, toward the end of two long days of madness, he was the first of his kind to stand behind a lectern with his name on, and refuse either to gild the truth, or to flat out lie. And right at the end, it was the
ukandeu's insight:

"All he was offering, he said, is compromise. That was how you won, 20 years ago. He quoted the Professor John Curtice, the nation’s leading psephologist, and the closest thing British politics has to a David Attenborough. No one agrees on everything, but almost everyone agrees that Curtice is always right."

Nigel Farage left disappointed after his party comes in second in Peterborough.
ukandeu's insight:

Polling expert John Curtice noted that having secured just 31 percent of the ballots, Forbes had set a record for the lowest share of the vote captured by a winning candidate in a by-election, which he said was confirmation the U.K. is in a “different political world” where no one party can necessarily dominate any particular election. He added that the Brexit Party was still a “significantly disruptive force.”
