A year of innovation ahead in the supply chain and logistics industry

A year of innovation ahead in the supply chain and logistics industry | Transport & Logistics | Scoop.it

"2015 will see an increased focus on innovation by supply chain and logistics companies as the pace of change in the industry accelerates. This is according to Prof. John Manners-Bell, CEO of leading research company Ti. These innovations will range from those affecting particular sector niches and logistics functions to those which have the power to transform the entire industry. "

Barbara Cloude's curator insight, January 6, 2015 10:27 AM

Does Your 3PL Provide ‘Golden Rule’ Customer Service?

Does Your 3PL Provide ‘Golden Rule’ Customer Service? | Transport & Logistics | Scoop.it

"Outsourcing logistics can be hectic and stressful, especially if you deal with a provider more interested in the next shipment than the one en route right now.

Imagine a third-party logistics provider (3PL) that does whatever it takes to fix shipping problems, believes there is no such thing as “just a transaction,” and whose drivers smile when they make deliveries and are happy to go the extra mile for your customers. Imagine a company that believes every delivery involves a shipper and a receiver— and a chance to build a trusting relationship."

Are you ready for extreme collaboration?

Are you ready for extreme collaboration? | Transport & Logistics | Scoop.it
If you thought you were doing well on collaboration, think again. We have now entered the age of extreme collaboration.
Effective collaboration in the supply chain is hardly a trivial thing – bringing new levels of confidence and trust to business relations.
But, extreme collaboration (XC) is to collaboration what bungee jumping is to a walk in the park.
The concept has its genesis in the ICT function, and, according to Gartner: “XC is enabled by combining four nexus forces into a pattern that can dramatically innovate the way people behave, communicate, work together and maintain relationships — often across wide organisational and geographic boundaries — to collectively deliver breakthrough process performance.”"

Transport Next Generation show, 31 March to 02 April 2015, Paris

"A new development at SITL Paris 2015, previewed by Alain Bagnaud, Director of Reed Exhibitions Transport & Logistics.

How would you describe the positioning of Transport Next Generation? What is distinctive about it and what added value does it provide?
AB: The aim of Transport Next Generation is to be an international event which responds the expectations of supply chain directors in industry and retailing. This new exhibition brings together, in a single space, the innovative transport equipment in all modes which work to achieve the most effective transport performance for industry and retailers. As such, Transport Next Generation addresses the link between shipper and transporter. Fundamentally multimodal, it touches the five main transport segments: road, rail, maritime, river and combined transport to which can be added two specific universes: urban and temperature controlled.
The programme for Transport Next Generation is based around a Steering Committee which, besides including our usual SITL partners, also has the participation of the Fédération Française de la Carrosserie (FFC), the Association Française du Gaz Naturel pour Véhicules (AFGNV) and TLF’s “Industrial Vehicle Rental” trade council.
What solutions does Transport Next Generation provide?"

Europe's post offices ramp up e-commerce service offerings

Europe's post offices ramp up e-commerce service offerings | Transport & Logistics | Scoop.it

"Many of Europe's post offices are struggling due to varying degrees of privatisation and declining mail volume. As such, many are reinventing themselves, particularly as online retailing continues to grow and demand for parcel delivery solutions, e-fulfilment services and cross-border European solutions increases.

The UK's Royal Mail is a classic example. In the midst of its privatisation process, it saw letter volumes decline 9% in 2012. However, its parcel subsidiary, Parcel Force, accounted for half of the group's revenue. As a result, the Royal Mail announced plans to invest £75m in Parcel Force's network, including a new parcel processing centre in Chorley, new depots in Cornwall and Hampshire, and the expansion or relocation of nine further depots over the next four years. Parcel Force's IT will also be upgraded, replacing existing legacy systems."

Does Europe want Germany to run all its railways?

Does Europe want Germany to run all its railways? | Transport & Logistics | Scoop.it
The European Commission has produced a 4th Railway Package designed, once and for all after 20 years of trying, to introduce the single market and liberalisation to Europe’s railways to achieve  growth, cost reductions, competition and better service quality. Having consulted widely, the draft Directive was approved by the College of Commissioners on 9 January 2013.

Then along goes Dr Grube, Chairman of DB, to Angela Merkel in the German Chancellery, and demands that Merkel gets the draft withdrawn unless the clauses on restructuring of the railways are removed.

Managing a Customer-Driven Supply Chain

"When it comes to customer service, shippers want their carriers and 3PLs to provide the complete package.

In today’s complex supply chain environment, customer service between shippers and their logistics providers means more than just a friendly voice on the line when something goes wrong. It is more than the ability to track a shipment or expedite a delivery. Today, shippers expect their logistics providers to take a “cradle-to-grave” approach to customer service, providing insight, strategic guidance, and a wide range of capabilities from the very beginning to the very end of the supply chain. From transportation of inbound raw materials to vendor management to outbound deliveries and everything in between, shippers depend on their providers to execute flawlessly, while acting as an extension of their company."
