Google's effort to get more people to use its Chrome browser has been paying off. For the first time, Chrome usage worldwide has surpassed Firefox usage, according to Internet metrics company StatCounter.
Chrome's share of the worldwide browser market in November reached 25.69%, an increase of 4.66% from a year earlier. Firefox came in at 25.23% while Microsoft Internet Explorer, in its various versions, totaled 40.63%.

El grupo de investigación de Estudios Árabes de la Universidad de Murcia ha liderado la puesta en marcha de un diccionario online árabe-español/español-árabe, que va a facilitar a los alumnos la enseñanza del idioma y servir también a los estudiantes árabes para el aprendizaje del español. El diccionario ha sido presentado hoy en la Facultad de Letras por sus directores, los profesores María Victoria Aguilar Sebastián y Antonio Giménez Reillo, que han coordinado el grupo de investigadores españoles y extranjeros que han participado en su confección.

Dans tous les pays d’Europe voisins de la France, les langues historiquement parlées sur le territoire et qui ne sont pas langue officielle de l’Etat ont elles aussi, sous des formes diverses, un caractère d’officialité reconnu par la loi. Ainsi, le basque est reconnu à côté du castillan par la Constitution espagnole de 1978 comme l’indique l’article 3 : “Les autres langues espagnoles sont également officielles dans les différentes Communautés autonomes en accord avec leurs Statuts”. La France, quant à elle, continue à camper sur sa position en refusant en pratique toute reconnaissance officielle aux langues dites régionales. L’article 75-1 de 2008 de la Constitution, “Les langues régionales appartiennent au patrimoine de la France”, n’a qu’un caractère déclaratif que les différents jugements de tribunaux ont confirmé depuis. La seule langue officielle en France est le français, l’article 2 de la Constitution (1992) et la loi relative à l’emploi du français (1994) l’ont “inscrit dans le marbre”.

Lydia Davis is an acclaimed translator and fiction writer. Her most recent translation is Gustave Flaubet’s Madame Bovary (Viking Press, 2010); past translations include works by Maurice Blanchot, Michel Leiris, Vivant Denon, Michel Butor, and Pierre Jean Jouve. Her translation of Marcel Proust’s Swann’s Way (Penguin Classics, 2004), part of a complete new translation of In Search of Lost Time, received the 2003 French-American Foundation and Florence Gould Foundation Translation Prize, which is the second time she has received this award—in 1992, her translation of Michel Leiris’s Scratches was similarly honored. Davis has been named a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government for her translations and her fiction....
Martin Hilský, renowned Czech translator of English and American literature, was awarded the 2011 State Prize, subsidized by the Ministry of Culture to the sum of 300.000 CZK (€ 11.000), for his translation of the Complete Works of William Shakespeare. This collection, published in a single volume by Academia this year, was presented at the Prague Book Fair 2011 where Martin Hilský participated on a public event called ‘Colourful Sonnet Tones’ organized by CEATL and the Czech Literary Translators’ Guild. Professor Martin Hilský has systematically translated, published and promoted Shakespeare’s plays and poetry since 1983. His respected work of criticism and translation includes books by T. S. Eliot, D. H. Lawrence, John Steinbeck, J. M. Synge and Thornton Wilder.

Ya hace años que la traducción profesional se beneficia de las herramientas de traducción asistida por ordenador (TAO o, en inglés, CAT, computer-assisted translation). Se trata de programas (comerciales, como SDL Trados, Star Transit, Déjà Vu o Wordfast, o de distribución libre, como OmegaT o Anaphraseus) que almacenan en una memoria digital las parejas de frases (en la lengua de partida y en la de llegada) que se van traduciendo, de manera que, en el momento en que aparece un segmento parecido o igual a otro que se ha traducido antes, el programa propone la traducción ya realizada la primera vez, la cual se puede editar o dar directamente por válida si la coincidencia es total. Las memorias son reutilizables en diversos proyectos de traducción y, a través del formato estándar TMX, intercambiables entre los diversos programas que trabajan con ellas.
