The United Nations Conference on climate change known as COP 17 is over, but the reality of climate change remains.
The gathering in the South African city of Durban on Sunday has highlighted the challenge of educating ordinary people about climate change, in their own languages.
Some of the terms and phrases that are used in discussions which are taken for granted in English, are not readily available in some of the African languages.....

Does the 'God Particle' exist? Scientists zoom in on Higgs boson

International physics teams Tuesday narrowed down the hiding place of the so-called “God particle.”

The “God particle” gets its nickname from its elusiveness, sought for decades in experiments aimed at detecting the subatomic particle.

That particle, when found, will answer why other subatomic particles weigh what they do and perhaps will open the door to explaining the mystery of gravity.

By literally smashing together atomic particles and seeing what pieces emerge from the collisions, two physics teams at Europe’s CERN lab report they have seen evidence of the God particle’s existence.

CERN Director Rolf-Dieter Heuer described at the briefing the results as “tantalizing” but not a “conclusive” detection of their quarry, known to physicists as the “Higgs boson.”

God-particle aimed to describe the subatomic particles weigh which can be a key of finding the mysteries of the things unseen such as gravity. This article caught my interest as I am always fascinated with how gravity governs the motion of planets around the Sun and how it keeps us stay on the ground without any hassle. Knowing the mystery behind it will surely help us redefine the present technology and who knows, it might help us create what seems impossible possible.

The Afrikaner-Du colonianisme à travers les langues

Does the Catholic Mass belong to the church or the people?

Does “for us men and for our salvation” include women?

Latin has the word for “a man” = vir. It has a word for “a woman” = mulier. It has a word for both of them together = homines, which may be translated in Brooklynese as “youse guys.” It is very sad that English texts - both old and “new” -- mandated by the Vatican bureaucracy mistranslate the Latin and make everyone -- including women -- profess belief that Jesus came down from Heaven “for us men and our salvation.” If you speak the English language of today, this wording leaves out women. I know some say that “women” are automatically included whenever you say “men,” but I wouldn’t advise following that logic and have a female enter a public “Men’s Room.” It is shameful that the pastoral sensitivity to time and place called for by the new evangelization has been ignored by using gender exclusive terms at Mass.
