We all have our own form of love affair with hiphop. But now hip hop has matured and grown a little and the needs in the relationship have changed.
We have the growth of hip pop (as it should be) and as it emerges on the world platform hiphop has to decide what its future will be. Will hiphop grow into a larger product brand or will hiphop continue to be a platform that its purist cultural ties might limit its growth.
At the end of the day no matter the decision hiphop will evolve, and hiphop no matter what’s your evolution will be, I will choose you
You know what I love? I love it when an artist is on the tipping point of doing something special. That's what I see when I see Lady Keyz. This artist who has a caribe/edm feel (is that a word? hmmm) is right at the tipping point of being on the top of world music (it's just to easy to see her jammin at TommorrowWorld.) Can Lady Keyz become EDM's Donna Summers, oh yeah. Her music has the drive of Donna Summers ( Bad Girls) combined with Cynda Lauper's fun music sound. Lady Keyz music has a very world music sound (maybe that comes from her multi ethnic background). So hey world, you've been informed. Lady Keyz is on the way and you have a personal invitation to her experience (#ManIGotMtTicketAndMyGlowStick).
How do rappers go broke? This would seem like a simple question but really it’s not. Hip Hop to some degree is fueled by fantasy, art and ego (right brain). The business is cloaked (left brain). Throw in areas of misunderstandings and a sense of entitlement along with an element of middleman theft, a dash of groupie & hanger on love and hype, with a spice of tax misunderstanding. There you have the recipe for going broke.
Somehow in the mix of all the talent stuff, people forget that at times hip hop is RENT TO OWN wealth. Everything cost. From that breakfast at Waffle House to the blunt you smoked, to the stripper you tipped (and took home and the Waffle House), it all cost someone.
Many rappers seem to miss that point (conveniently not explained by the middlemen so they can skim off the money) and the fact that whomever the bread came from wanted their bread back is like a bad calculus test for some of these artist (and their friends “They want their money back… they trippin”) . Yes “Virginia” they want their money back with interest and with interest that means over time the interest accumulates (if you haven’t put nothing on the principle, the money owed).
So if they don’t understand that, that’s why rappers wind up broke (or anyone for that matter), well that’s why

The music producer, Shellac frontman and author of seminal 1993 essay The Problem with Music has turned his frown upside down – read his Face the Music speech in full
Reginald Shipman's insight:
This is above and beyond one of the best analysis of what happened to us in this music industry. This essay was as honest as it gets. To many of day to day music business operation became bloated functions in the industry ( I become terrified when I here someone go 'Man I gotta get this money" because that has become a clear sign that someone's about to waste somebody's money. Great read, check it out
Man this new Chris Brown is that joint. Chris Brown's "CameToDo" ft Akon is right in line with all these other ChrisBrown/KidInk/Jeremih dance cuts. It comes in at 106 bpms and it's very mix friendly. ON this one I mix the "CameToDo" with a Notorious B.I.G "Hypnotize (CameToDoRemix) , (#IknowRight). and then we took it out with this Miami/NewYork up and coming rapper LadyKeyz (#BeOnTheLookOut) and her cut "WeCameToParty" (#NewYearsEveHereWeGo). Hope you enjoy this new 3PcSnack because this "CameToDo" is gone..... #GetAtMe

NWA most definately was one of the most controversial acts to ever come to hip hop. Like Public Enemy, NWA used hiphop as an urban CNN where others from other segments of society could have glimpse of their exsistence. NWA presented an edgier side but they functioned the same as Public Enemy or The Ghetto Boys (#ThisIs HowItIsInMyHood).
To a degree some of that is lost in todays hiphop because many artist are really just focused on their attention (which is cool also) and less concerned about confronting urban issues head to head using hiphop as their hammer. NWA not only did this, they championed it. To the point where Eric "EasyE" Wright was invited to a White House Dinner with Ronald Regan based on he was a republican donater (Yeah they really vetted that.)
It''s important for hiphop to remain a voice in the community about issues that affect our community. Man and really, if NWA (of all people) could do it then anyone in hiphop also can accept the charge.
DXB is a rapper, DXB is an honor student, DXB is a football talent DXB is a comedian on Vine and Mr. DXB is a business man. Is there anything DXB isn't? Well yes, he aint a failiure.
DXB and the "YEET" Dance Craze is bubbling in these Atlanta streets. I go to clubs and girls are going "HitThatYeet". At friends of mine nieces parties, the whole party consisted of young teens going "Yeet, Yeet, Yeet." (she had no idea what a "Yeet" was she told me) This "Yeet" thing is bubbling and waiting to happen.
DXB also has an Atlanta Falcon's hype song "Rise Up" that's making moves. So who is DXB?
Well DXB is all of the things that I've mentioned above and when this "YEET" thing blows up, Oh well, you heard it here first. Between the "RiseUp" Falcons song and the "HitThatYeet" dance craze, it's safe to say that DXB is on his way to another successful situation. With the video coming close to 35,000 views (real views not bought), this "Yeet" situation is on a slow burn to success. Really I cant figure out how he does it all at 16 years old. But you know what I can figure out? DXB is on his way to success.
Listen to and Download We Like To Party, the new song from Lady Keyz. Lady Keyz a new dance/hiphop artist with a strong island influence. "WeLikeToParty" is a new club anthem for the urban and cosmopolitan dance jocks. Its a 120bpms and easily mixed #GetAtMe
Man recently with the Taylor Swift thing coming to light (Taylor pulling her music from Spotify) it became more clear to me that many folk are not aware of something really important. The major labels no longer create anything. They supposedly are creating stardom for the artist ( I know its gets strange right there…) but usually they just wind up running up a huge bill in the artist name. No conspiracy just bad business. You see the labels now primary function now is to be the middlemen for the LENDER OF FAME. Here’s the difference Now it seems that there are middlemen who you have to know to meet the middlemen to the lender ( I know quite confusing). These middlemen are usually someone who to put it kindly is an entertainment pimp ( I tried). It’s that simple.
Recently an article has resurfaced that really spells out what happened in our business ( boy I’m glad someone else is saying these things also). If you get a minute and you really want to know what plagues this (and many other) industries, check out Steve Albini’s article “A Study Of The Music Industry” http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/nov/17/steve-albinis-keynote-address-at-face-the-music-in-full . It’s a great read and brutally honest.
Man I don’t knock no one’s hustle in this business but when your hustle becomes the business to the detriment of the business, well there has to be changes.
Look y’all the labels no longer produce anything but hype( there someone has said it). They don’t make the music (you do), they really don’t have a lock on the fans (their your fans). The only thing they do is upload the same mp3 to itunes that you can. Now do they try to control the front of the line when it comes to fame, yeah and at times it works. In today online market although, the Macklemore & Lewis’, the Tech-9, The Weeknd, the Yo Gotti’s or the Flo Rida’s are really selling without that so called juice. Shit Lil John and DJ Snakes “TurnDownForWhat” sold over 2000 downloads a day for over 200 (count them) days and still counting. The same record sold over 5000 downloads a day for over a 100 days this year and the sales didn’t fall off until they added some so call trending rappers on a remix (that never really had the same success as the original but it still sold)
So if you want these folks out of your pocket, don’t let em in. Look no one’s gonna pay you to become rich (not unless they are fully planning to steal a lot of money in your name). Now there are some who are going to cry “Yo man why you fucking up the game?” Because it's not a game to these artist. It’s their dream and their life and it’s not a game for me, ITS MY PASSION.
Tiny Doo is a rapper (okay now that that's out of the way). Tiny Doo might well be involved in a landmark case. This man has no criminal record but he's being tried on a California law that prohibits gangs members or their affiliates from profiteering off of past criminal activities..( is this a backdoor local RICO attempt?) The courts are saying that Tiny Doo's album was supported and sponsored by gangs and their activities (now I want you to take a moment and just enhale this indictment #FRFR). Tiny Doo and 14 others are alledgedly involved with 14 shootings ( does it seem like they're making the rapper with no criminal background the weak link in this case knowing that he might give up information? Hmmmmmm #LifeIsALongTime). People in the hip hop.world really need to pay attention to this case because this case has the possibility of setting an awful precedent for young people in urban communities #BeInformed
