North Leeds Charity Beer Festival Returns for 2018

North Leeds Charity Beer Festival Returns for 2018 | The Rotary Club of Roudhay | Scoop.it
Want an excuse to go out and drink your fill of real ale, cider and gin? At the North Leeds Charity Beer Festival, it’s all for a good cause. Now in its seventh year, North Leeds Charity Beer Festival has become one of Roundhay’s most anticipated events. It’s a collaboration between the Rotary Club of Roundhay and Sam Parker from the British Guild of Beer Writers – so you can expect a tour de force of top class real ales. And as always, all money raised will be used to help local community projects. This year’s event is entitled ‘The Magnificent Seventh’ and will return to the North Leeds Cricket Club on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th April 2018 – but they’re introducing something new this year. Alongside the array of real ales and ciders on the taps, they’re going to have a Gin Bar for the first time ever, and it will showcase some of the UK’s finest distilleries, from Masons to JJ Whitley. If you’re going for the traditional fare, you can try over 35 different beers from at least seven breweries – Quirky Ales, James & Kirkman Brewery, New Wharf Brewing Co, Wylam Brewery, Wilde Child Brewing Co, Kirkstall Brewery and Hawkshead Brewery will all be there. They’re also going to have seven Yorkshire ciders, as well as spirits and soft drinks if you need a change. Feeling hungry? You can tuck into homemade samosas or visit the Wilson’s of Crossgates for one of their famous pork pies to mop up the booze. Leeds Cricket Club will be open from 6pm Friday night, and from 12 noon on Saturday. Entry is £10 a day, although you can get a £2 discount if you book your ticket in advance online – members of CAMRA or SPBW will get a £2 discount regardless. Your ticket gets you their special festival pack, including a commemorative beer glass, programme and two beer tokens, with extra tokens available for £1.50. Although the North Leeds Charity Beer Festival will be attended for its wide range of real ales, it’s important to note that it is all for a good cause. They’ve raised over £30,000 so far – and they added over £8,000 to that total in 2017 alone. The money helps to support a series of community ventures like St Gemma’s Hospice, Roundhay Stroke Club and John Jamieson School. Fingers crossed, they’ll add to that considerably in April, with a little help from the city’s beer aficionados. North Leeds Charity Beer Festival is at Leeds Cricket Club on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th April 2018. Tickets are available now.

MORLEY PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR SEVENTH ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT

MORLEY PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR SEVENTH ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT | The Rotary Club of Roudhay | Scoop.it
Morley Glass & Glazing is once again the proud headline sponsor of the North Leeds Charity Beer Festival, which will be returning with a new twist to North Leeds Cricket Club from 6-7 April. Now in its seventh year, the annual community charity fundraising festival, featuring food, drink and music festival will this year debut a gin bar alongside 35 real ales from seven breweries and seven ciders. As always, the fine selection of real ale, cider and gin will be complemented by pork pies and vegetable samosas, as well as a fantastic programme of local bands. Initially created with an aim to showcase interesting and unusual beers from Yorkshire micro and independent breweries, the festival has since achieved so much more. From humble beginnings in 2012, the event has raised over £30k to enable the Rotary Club of Roundhay to support many projects in the local area and further afield. Ian Short, managing director of Morley Glass & Glazing says: “We are delighted to be able to sponsor the 7th Annual North Leeds Charity Beer Festival and welcome the fact that gin is on the menu to help appeal to an even wider audience – and help raise more funds.  This is exactly the type of initiative we like to be involved with as it perfectly reflects our ethos of giving back to local communities. I will be rolling up my sleeves and helping alongside the Rotarians and I am very much looking forward to the event. I wish NLBF and the Rotary Club of Roundhay every success.” The Leeds-based sealed unit manufacturer and ScreenLine® integral blinds supplier also sponsors many other local charities, sports clubs and good causes and is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. New playground opens at Roundhay Park in Leeds after community fundraising heroics

New playground opens at Roundhay Park in Leeds after community fundraising heroics | The Rotary Club of Roudhay | Scoop.it
Mum’s the word for young visitors to Roundhay Park in Leeds after the opening of its revamped lakeside playground. As previously reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, a group of five local mums began a fundraising campaign in April with the aim of improving the play area’s dilapidated equipment. They raised more than £150,000 in the following five months and, after a further seven weeks of work at the site, the new-look playground has now opened with a special celebration event. The fundraising group – who are all members of the Friends of Roundhay Park – comprised Laura Webb, Petra Smith, Lexi Moffatt, Sara Dawson and Julia Wilson. Laura said: “This whole project goes to show you can achieve anything if you give it to a bunch of busy mums. “I’m really proud of what we achieved, and how the community and local businesses have gotten behind us to make this happen and supported us every step of the way.” The new play area’s features include a castle, pirate ship, static train, swings, somersault bars, an explorer’s bridge and a roundabout. Playground supplier Kompan contributed £50,000 match-funding to the project, with support also coming from the Veolia Environmental Trust, People’s Postcode Lottery, Wade’s Charity, local ward councillors and the Friends of Roundhay Park. Other backers included the Lakeside Cafe, Mr Whippy Leeds, Scott Pullen and Son Fairgrounds, Oakwood Solicitors, Winston Solicitors, OneWellness, Foot-Tech Academy, Adair Paxton, Manning Stainton, Roundhay Rotary Club and St James’s Place Foundation. Kompan play specialist Simon Burke said: “It has been fantastic to be part of this project with the Friends of Roundhay Park, delivering more play opportunities for the local community.” An official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the playground at 10am on Friday, January 18.

The Rotary Club of Roundhay’s Magnificent Seventh!!

The Rotary Club of Roundhay’s Magnificent Seventh!! | The Rotary Club of Roudhay | Scoop.it
The North Leeds Charity Beer Festival celebrates its seventh year and returns to North Leeds Cricket Club on the 6-7 April 2018. The festival is jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Roundhay with the help of Sam Parker, a member of The British Guild of Beer Writers. The annual charity fundraising event is now an established highlight in the Roundhay social calendar. To celebrate this milestone we will be dispensing 35 beers from seven small independent and micro-breweries together with seven ciders. A novel addition to the 2018 festival will be our new Gin Bar serving seven incredible gins from small producers that you won’t find anywhere else, along with new tonics, mixers and tasty botanicals! The festival is known for some serious entertainment which showcase local Leeds musical talent and 2018 will see past favourites as well as new talent. We have a full programme of music playing over the two day festival. To compliment the fine selection of real ale, cider & gin we will be serving food to suit the occasion throughout the Festival. Since 2012 The Rotary Club of Roundhay’s beer festival has raised over £30k and charities based locally in Leeds, nationally and Internationally have benefitted. Local organisations to receive financial support include: St Gemma’s Hospice, John Jamieson School, Roundhay Stroke Club, Catch in Harehills and Leeds Rowing Club based at Roundhay Park Lake, where two rowing machines were funded. Local Rotary programmes including the ocean-going Young Sailor, Young Musician, Young Writer, Young Citizen, Young Chef, Leeds Technology Tournament and Rotary Youth Leadership Award have also received funding from the monies raised. We are indebted to our major sponsors Morley Glass and Glazing Ltd and Express Bi-Folding Doors for their continued support without which the festival wouldn’t take place and the Rotary Club of Roundhay couldn’t fund their worthwhile projects. Ian Short, Managing Director of Morley Glass says: “We are delighted to be able to sponsor the 7th Annual North Leeds Charity Beer Festival. This is exactly the type of initative we like to be involved with as it perfectly reflects our ethos of giving back to local communities. I personally will be rolling up my sleeves and helping alongside the Rotarians and I am very much looking forward to the event. I wish NLBF and the Rotary Club of Roundhay every success.” We would also like acknowledge the support of our individual sponsors and advertisers whose contribution is invaluable. North Leeds Cricket Club open their doors at 6pm on Friday and from 12noon on Saturday. The cost of entry is £10, however you can get a £2 discount by booking your tickets in advance online – members of CAMRA or SPBW will get a £2 discount regardless. The ticket price entitles you to a special festival pack which includes a commemorative beer glass, programme and two beer tokens, with extra tokens available for £1.50.
