About six-in-ten U.S. adults (58%) are familiar with ChatGPT, though relatively few have tried it themselves, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in March. Among those who have tried ChatGPT, a majority report it has been at least somewhat useful.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to flexible work. Every company’s needs are different, and, as Microsoft’s 2021 Work Trend Index Pulse Report showed, it’s essential to support flexibility in different work styles for your people and teams. According to the report, 58 percent of employees who planned to spend most of their time at the office chose that option so they could do “focused work.” Meanwhile, among employees who planned to work primarily from home, the exact same percentage of respondents said that option would best enable them to do…focused work.

The paper characterizes AI search as a strategic platform that can be a force multiplier and enable CXOs to deliver significant business outcomes in several digital transformation priorities. I then share how CIOs, CDOs, and CMOs can partner on delivering these outcomes and over 20 financial metrics that AI search can impact.
Let me define some terms and explain my position.

For many people leaders, that’s been the mantra for the past three years. “Let’s just get through this moment in time, focus on the short-term solutions for our immediate needs, and when things go back to normal, we’ll deal with all the issues we’ve been putting on the backburner.”
Now it’s time to deal with those issues: new business models; supply chain; environmental, social, and governance (ESG); new ways of working; new technologies; new talent demands; new productivity gaps. And executives are realizing that the bench of up-and-coming leaders lack the skills, knowledge, and capabilities to lead their companies into the future.

In times of tumult and rapid change, John Boudreau said that there’s often a knee-jerk reaction among company leaders to roll out new policies that speak to the specifics of the exact moment. But, he added, “I’m firmly convinced that a policy is the wrong answer.”
Avoiding the usual policy-update reflex doesn’t mean ceding control to chaos. “What it means is inviting—and continuing to invite—your workers, your managers, and your leaders to experiment,” said Boudreau. He explained that this way, your policy becomes, in effect: “We don’t know what the future is, but we know that we need to engage together to evolve as the future unfolds.” It’s a process Boudreau likes to call “agile work design through experiments.”

Whether you're employed, self-employed, a leader in your industry, or just starting out, networking and making connections are important in attracting new opportunities.
But in a post-pandemic world where nearly all of our networking is done online, what are the best ways to “meet” new people and build those connections?

According to a recent international survey, nearly 20% of workers who quit their jobs during the pandemic have since returned to their old employers. The prevalence of these boomerang employees represents a major opportunity for companies, many of which are becoming increasingly intentional about recruiting alumni as potential rehires — but it also represents a major risk with respect to retention, as new hires may be increasingly liable to boomerang back to their previous organizations.

Generative Artificial intelligence may be creating both a lot of excitement and uncertainty, but one thing is clear: its most realistic role will be that of a prosthetic for the brain, enabling executives and professionals to expand their horizons — not to mention their schedules.
“Our research has found the biggest benefit of generative AI is adding human productivity,” says Allison Horn, managing director of Accenture’s talent and organization consulting services. “We estimate as much as 40% of working hours will be augmented or automated by generative AI.”

"Mediocrity will be automated."
That was the verdict a top tech executive shared with me recently, describing the impact he predicted AI would have on the workforce. And while the phrasing might seem a bit harsh, there's growing evidence that he might be on to something.
More specifically, AI could disproportionately impact the middle class of white-collar workers — the folks who are mid-career, mid-ability, mid-level, and yes, in some cases, mediocre. Here's why:

A recent Mercer survey reported that 57% of CEOs and CFOs plan to increase use of AI and automation; nearly one-third are redesigning work to reduce their organizations’ dependency on people.
In Mercer’s 2022 Global Talent Trends Study, the percentage of employees who say automation will significantly change how their work is done has jumped from 44% to 71% in the past two years. However, unlike previous iterations of automation that largely impacted repetitive, rules-based work, generative AI will also affect low-volume, highly variable work, leading to the “democratization of creativity.” Work in numerous professions, including that of authors, researchers, lawyers and many others, will be significantly disrupted.

Technological change has the potential to create shared prosperity and smart solutions to the world’s biggest challenges. At the same time, its exponential pace risks overwhelming existing institutions, leaving us exposed to uncontrolled risks. Geopolitical crises, rising polarization and a looming climate crisis are compounding this danger.
There is an urgent need for leaders to seize the opportunity to direct technology towards positive ends. Here are five developments that they should be prepared for in the year ahead.

As teams continue to adapt to hybrid and remote work, the past year has been all about finding ways to satisfy both company and employee needs, particularly in a market where workers face a low cost of switching jobs and a global job market. However, with the threat of an economic recession looming, layoffs and cost cutting mean companies have had to place more of their focus on helping distributed teams work more efficiently across the organization and in ways that will sustain long-term growth. In this year’s report, we focus on three major trends that companies need to prepare for in order to thrive in 2023: 1. Turning lean teams into dream teams 2. Winning the race with sustainability and efficiency 3. Cueing up cross-functional collaboration To learn more about the topics most relevant to our readers, we surveyed nearly 1,500 professionals in more than 12 different job roles across 20+ industries. We also tapped into industry experts to gather up the most talked about topics and ideas.

The workplace is a vastly different place than it was five years ago, mainly because the pandemic accelerated the adoption of new technologies. For some, basic activities like dressing in business attire and commuting seem like memories from a distant past. However, the pandemic has not been the only driving force.
According to "The Challenger Report," more tech employees were laid off in 2022 than in 2020 and 2021 combined. This trend continued into 2023. As of March 31, roughly 135,000 tech workers in the U.S. have been laid off. Experts point to a number of reasons: economic downturn and the possibility of a recession, high inflation, higher interest rates and overhiring during the pandemic.

Right now Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the new kid on the block — even though it's been around for decades(opens in a new tab) — that's being introduced as the radical change that threatens to upend our society. It is scaring the hell out of people as we wrestle with our imaginations over how it will transform the ways we operate in our lives, how we perceive our jobs, and what the future may hold for our careers.

Generative tools like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion have got everyone talking about artificial intelligence (AI) – but where is it headed next?
It’s already clear that this exciting technology will have a big impact on the way we live and work. UK energy provider Octopus Energy has said that 44% of its customer service emails are now being answered by AI. And the CEO of software firm Freshworks has said that tasks that previously took eight to 10 weeks are now being completed in days as a consequence of adopting AI tools into its workflows.
