25 Things Tests Can't Measure In Students

25 Things Tests Can't Measure In Students | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it

"So why the scorn for testing children? How else will we know if they’re learning?

That a test–at least the standardized tests we give in schools today–represents only a narrow snapshot of a child’s abilities isn’t a new proposition. That they promote reductive views of intelligence, mislead families and communities, and are often punitive for teachers and students alike also isn’t new, which is where this image by @sylviaduckworth comes in.

The graphic is based on the idea of personality qualities, rather than the content knowledge and academic skills measured by most standardized testing today., that are beyond the reach of testing today. There are many potential takeaways here, so let’s document a few in the form of a question:

What do we test today and why?

Why should we be testing and why?

Are tests the best way to measure learning?"

Apple's app 'nutrition labels' could be start of something great - Cult of Mac  | Daring Ed Tech | Scoop.it
What do you do when you pick up some food in the store, and want to quickly check how good or bad it is for you? You glance at the nutrition label, of course.

Throughout the last century, mandated labels on food forced manufacturers to reveal more and more information about the contents of their products — and their effects on people who consume them. Now Apple is bringing that same level of insight to apps in the App Store.

It’s about time!

As apps become ever more central to our lives — with increasing access to our most sensitive personal data — transparency about exactly how developers use that information is becoming more necessary than ever.

Librarians are NOT so Quiet!

Ttoo2's curator insight, September 13, 2019 1:47 PM
While I understand a publisher's need to make a profit, they are seriously damaging their own credibility as well as infringing upon the public's Freedom to Read rights. Libraries have always stood for free access to information and reading. Shame on publishers.
