FIFA tells European Parliament to get back in line after their 2034 World Cup bid criticisms

FIFA tells European Parliament to get back in line after their 2034 World Cup bid criticisms | The Business of Events Management | Scoop.it

February 3 – In a strongly worded letter, world governing body FIFA has rebuked criticism by Members of the European Parliament over the host award of the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia.
It is a remarkable reprimand of Europe’s political leaders. FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who attended the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States and courts Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman with vigour, refuses to accept any criticism of the 2034 process as his organisation increasingly defies good governance and gets away with it.

John Beech's insight:

The arrogance of FIFA, with its over-inflated sense of its importance, never ceases to amaze.

Booze ban unlikely to be lifted for Saudi Arabia 2034 World Cup | The Business of Events Management | Scoop.it

December 18 – Saudi Arabia has been dry since 1952, and we’re not talking about rain. King Ibn Saud banned alcohol that year, and the chances of football fans being allowed to drink in stadiums during World Cup 2034 are about as strong as Budweiser Zero.
While FIFA have not publicly addressed the issue, senior sources told The Guardian newspaper “there is no question of beer being sold at matches”.
