December 18 – The FIFA Council has approved a record $655 million prize fund for the 2026 World Cup, a massive 50% increase on Qatar 2022 prize money.
The winners will take home $50 million, runners-up $33 million, third place $29 million, and fourth place $27 million. Even countries that fall at the first hurdle are guaranteed payouts of at least $10.5 million once preparation costs are included.
It sounds like a win-win for all member nations until you place it next to FIFA’s newest flagship event.

November 28 – The four ‘home’ associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have formally submitted their joint bid for the Women’s World Cup 2035 with a proposed 22 stadiums, 16 of them in England of which five are in London.
The joint bid is the only bid for 2035. The 2027 World Cup will be held in Brazil, while the USA is the sole bidder for 2031 which will be the first of the expanded 48-team format.

November 12 – Ahead of tonight’s launch of the Euro 2028 tournament to be co-hosted by England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, UEFA has announced the renewal of its long-running Coca-Cola partnership, with the soft drinks firm becoming an official global sponsor of UEFA EURO 2028, and designated as the official non-alcoholic beverage sponsor.
In London’s Piccadilly tonight UEFA will officially launch Euro 2028 with an unveiling of the tournament branding and the federations in town to promote their co-operation.

January 26 – The US House of Representatives has approved $100 million in federal funding to support transit agencies in host cities ahead of the World Cup, underscoring the federal government’s role in delivering the largest sporting event ever staged. 
The funding was announced by Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS-03), founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional FIFA World Cup 2026 Caucus and reflects growing recognition in Washington that World Cup infrastructure demands extend well beyond local budgets.

December 1 – The bid book for the joint USA-Mexico-Costa Rica-Jamaica hosting of the 2031 Women’s World Cup was submitted to FIFA last Friday, projecting $4bn+ in revenue and more than 4 million fans in stadiums under the banner ‘For Now. For Next’.
The four-nation bid is the only one for 2031 hosting and promises to break all previous records for fan engagement, attendances and in terms of generating commercial revenue.
