T is for Technology « An A-Z of ELT | Teacher Training & Development | Scoop.it
I really would like to see a more balanced approach to the uses of technology in – say – training contexts (e.g. CELTA, DELTA) , where it seems that either nothing is done about it at all, or the 'tech session' is a fashion parade of gadgets ......

Why Digital Learning will Liberate Teachers : Education Next

Why Digital Learning will Liberate Teachers : Education Next | Teacher Training & Development | Scoop.it

Teachers will be critical to our nation’s future in a world of digital learning. Of course, teachers’ jobs will also be quite different from the way they look today—and if we do this right, they should not just be different, but they should also be a whole lot better, as it liberates them in many exciting ways.

Flipped Classroom Defined

Flipped Classroom Defined | Teacher Training & Development | Scoop.it

The flipped classroom provides avenues for teachers to become facilitators of learning and move away from the sage on a stage approach to teaching. The foundational concepts of instructors guiding students or facilitating their progress are based on the idea that the instructor is no longer at the center of the interaction and application of knowledge. The instructor remains available to students as a facilitator of resources, a resource who should frequently check students for understanding for their learning.

The Difference Between Digital Literacy and Digital Fluency | SociaLens Blog | Teacher Training & Development | Scoop.it

Thanks to Eric Stockmeyer for this one: "Literacy and fluency* have to do with our ability to use a technology to achieve a desired outcome in a situation using the technologies that are available to us. A literate person is perfectly capable of using digital tools. They know how to use them and what to do with them, but the outcome is less likely to match their intention. It is not until that person reaches a level of fluency, however, that they are comfortable with when to use the tools to achieve the desired outcome, and even why the tools they are using are likely to have the desired outcome at all."

Interactive whiteboards - 8 ideas to keep it simple | The Whiteboard Blog | Teacher Training & Development | Scoop.it

In addition, while the majority of schools are using either Smart Notebook or Activ software there are a lot of other pieces of software out there that teachers are using in schools. It can be frustrating to see activities that are reliant on a very specific tool in one piece of software, only to find that you can’t do that in the software you have in school. Tools such as tables, handwriting recognition, interactive resources, maths tools, timers and suchlike. All are fun, but not always essential.

Five Big Changes to the Future of Teacher Education

Five Big Changes to the Future of Teacher Education | Teacher Training & Development | Scoop.it

They say teachers must be prepared to find and adapt new technologies to engage the digital generation, as well as work across traditional subject areas using project learning. They must be able to use data and evidence to inform their practice and know how to work in both virtual learning environments and brick-and-mortar schools. And they’ll need to collaborate with community-based organizations and work in schools that provide all kinds of other services for students and their families.

Online Teacher Development Course - Research

Online Teacher Development Course - Research | Teacher Training & Development | Scoop.it

Over the last few months I have been working with Bell Educational Services developing online and blended learning courses for English language teacher development. This has been an interesting project and one that has pushed me to review the way I think about online teacher development and the way courses and course interaction is developed using Moodle.

I developed a Moodle-mediated language development course for a group of advanced EFL learners who were trainee English teachers in the Yucatan for a study into the link between technology and learner autonomy. I agree with you Nik, my experience made me rethink my work on multiple levels from pedagogy to functionality to interaction ... and then of course notions of autonomy

Debates about education are by no means new: What’s the best way to teach? What’s the best way to learn? What should the curriculum be? Who should have access to specialized knowledge and specialized training? How does technology impact all of these questions?
