ISO launches new international standard for major events. | Sustainable Events News | Scoop.it

The International Standards Organisation (ISO) is developing a new International Standard for major events

The ISO provides advice and best practice in a huge number of fields and industries worldwide. ISO 20121 - Event sustainability management systems - is already the international standard for venues and organisers who want their events to be green-certified.

Now the ISO is developing ISO 22379, Security and resilience – Guidelines for hosting and organising large citywide events. It aims to provide guidelines and expertise on how to manage risks, public safety and service continuity during a wide-scale event.

The new standard will bring together the knowledge of experts involved in hosting major events such as the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

F1 sets net zero carbon target for 2030

F1 sets net zero carbon target for 2030 | Sustainable Events News | Scoop.it
Formula 1 is aiming to have a net zero carbon footprint by 2030, as well as fully sustainable events by 2025. The sport’s environmental impact has been a hot topic in F1 over recent weeks following social media posts from Lewis Hamilton ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix.
Andrew Sanville's curator insight, May 2, 9:24 AM
This is an article from back when Formula 1 was still looking forward to a 2020 season, one that has been postponed and shortened if it will happen at all this year due to cornonavirus. The pressure from many countries is to push racing into a more sustainable, less harmful emissions corner. Many reasons that Formula 1 had to branch into an all electric racing mode, Formula E, is to develop technology that can one day be just as competitive as Formula 1. I personally welcome this change, because due to electric cars being almost silent, they are allowed to race in city's that have noise restrictions. That could mean we could one day see these amazing machines racing through the inner harbor in Baltimore, or in front of DC city streets.
