Glastonbury 2019: 6 ways to have a greener festival

Glastonbury 2019: 6 ways to have a greener festival | Sustainable Events News | Scoop.it
There was a time when festival-goers would’ve quite happily loaded themselves up with plastic vodka-filled bottles, washed themselves with non-biodegradable wet wipes and abandoned their landfill-destined tents without a care in the world.

ISO launches new international standard for major events.

ISO launches new international standard for major events. | Sustainable Events News | Scoop.it

The International Standards Organisation (ISO) is developing a new International Standard for major events

The ISO provides advice and best practice in a huge number of fields and industries worldwide. ISO 20121 - Event sustainability management systems - is already the international standard for venues and organisers who want their events to be green-certified.

Now the ISO is developing ISO 22379, Security and resilience – Guidelines for hosting and organising large citywide events. It aims to provide guidelines and expertise on how to manage risks, public safety and service continuity during a wide-scale event.

The new standard will bring together the knowledge of experts involved in hosting major events such as the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

What Happens To The Waste Of 200,000 People At Glastonbury? | BBC Earth

What Happens To The Waste Of 200,000 People At Glastonbury? | BBC Earth | Sustainable Events News | Scoop.it

Excellent little video on what happens to the waste at Glastonbury Festival. It was fantastic to hear that the obsession with single-use plastic avoidance in the UK over the last year has lead festival goers there to draw the line between their tent disposal habits and single-use plastic. This year they had a significant proportion of people take the tents away compared to previous years.

Great work by the festival industry in communicating this obvious link.
