Pentatonix -- Plus Han Solo! -- Pay Tribute to ‘Star Wars’ Composer John Williams | Soundtrack | Scoop.it
Pop music wasn’t the only genre honored during the 2015 American Music Awards, as the annual ceremonies enjoyed a rare highlight near the end of the show – a tribute to lauded film composer John Williams, given by none other than 73-year-old Harrison Ford; who, of course, is known for his beloved role as Han Solo in the movie that is arguably Williams’s most famous scoring project: Star Wars. After running down a list of Williams’s notable compositions (including Jaws and Indiana Jones), Harrison – who stars in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens – introduced Grammy Award-winning a cappella group Pentatonix to deliver a performance of Williams’s iconic Star Wars theme. Pentatonix, dressed in Star Wars costumes, delivered an ethereal vocal rendition of the theme, backed by scenes from the latest installment of the film series, which hits theaters December 17. Pentatonix came to public attention via NBC’s now-defunct reality show The Sing-Off, winning Season 3 of the series.
