Which Composer Has The Most Twitter Followers?

Which Composer Has The Most Twitter Followers? | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

It took me a little longer to join Twitter than most people. My first experience with it was wrought with annoyance and bewilderment. As Twitter spread throughout the general populous and into the world of cinema, I started realizing what an incredible vehicle it is for connecting with people and subjects you're passionate about.

Film composers appear to be an unusually responsible breed of Twitter user. They mix equal parts promotion with personal experience, making their Twitterature especially interesting to read. David Arnold (Independence Day, Casino Royale) is prolific at expressing his acerbic wit and profound sense of humor. Michael Giacchino (Speed Racer, Star Trek Into Darkness) frequently posts photos of his recording sessions and global travels and Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, Da Vinci's Demons) uses Twitter to directly connect with his fans on a personal level.

I was personally curious which composer had the most followers so I went through and took a tally. Would it be any indication of a particular composer's popularity? Again, I was curious so humor me.

Here's a list of as many film, television, and video game composers as I could locate on Twitter and the number of their respective followers. As niche as film music can be, I was surprised by the overall results.

The Music Behind the Screen: Composer Cameos

The Music Behind the Screen: Composer Cameos | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

It is not a new tradition to have a director have a cameo in their films. You can find cameos of directors like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Peter Jackson, and perhaps the cameo expert Alfred Hitchcock.

Composers themselves have made cameos in many films. They typically range from conductor to musician. There are a few instances of the composer appearing as themselves or in a speaking role.
Here is my compiled list of some nice composer cameos.

Are Musicians Benefiting from Music Tech? | Artist Revenue Streams

Are Musicians Benefiting from Music Tech? | Artist Revenue Streams | Soundtrack | Scoop.it

On Monday, February 13, 2012, FMC’s Kristin Thomson participated in the tenth San Fran MusicTech Summit in San Fransisco, CA. Drawing upon Money from Music survey findings and artist interviews, we presented some data about the impact of music/technologies on musicians’ careers and their earning capacity.

We started the presentation by describing the project’s methodology. The research involves three data collection methods: in person interviews with about 80 different musicians and composers, financial case studies based on verifiable bookkeeping data, and a widely distributed online survey.

We also underscored that this study is not about label market share, or consumer spending, or measuring an artists’ social graph. It’s about individual musicians’ earning capacity. It’s about what they end up putting in their pocket, and how it’s changing over time.

Then we did a quick overview of the survey respondent demographics.

Requiem for an art form: Why modern composers are fighting a losing battle

If music represents the most beautiful pole of human experience, war represents the most horrific. Yet classical music's responses to war regularly count among concert halls' best-loved offerings, so strong and so universal is their message.
