Excellent resource, especially this advice on infographics:

In August 2013, the same Googler followed up on that promise by saying that, to avoid raising suspicion with Google, marketers should consider using nofollow links in the infographics they distribute across a large number of sites. This should be done to signify that your infographics aren’t being shared just to up your Google rankings, but rather they are being shared for educational, promotional, or lead and traffic generation purposes.

Robin Good's curator insight, September 19, 2013 8:28 AM

Alesia Krush on the ContentMarketingInstitute site provides a good roundup of five popular content marketing strategies, that carry with them a high risk of Google penalization.

These are:

  1. infographic creation

  2. advertorial placement

  3. press release distribution

  4. article submission and guest blogging

If you are using them or planning to do so, you should be very careful indeed. Read the article and check the examples provided before discovering it's too late to go back.

Useful reminder for many content marketers. 7/10

#2: Give Prospects a Reason to Connect With You

It’s not enough to just show up in the search results. There are numerous other profiles that show up as well. So unless you give prospects a good reason to click on you, they are just as likely to click on someone else’s profile. You must have a compelling headline that grabs their attention and makes prospects want to click on your profile.

AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

What a though-provoking suggestion from Knowledge Broker, Kenneth Mikkelsen.

This one is deep and requires multiple views.  I have watched a few times and find more and more relevance.  One item I feel is left out is the fantastic ability to conduct research and learn from the social web.

Most of my time is spent doing this, and while I definitely agree with the message, I still feel that my biggest draw to the social web is the way it facilitates my need to do research and learn from others.

What do you think?

Kenneth Mikkelsen's comment, August 17, 2013 5:00 PM
I completely agree, Al. I had the same feeling while watching the video. We would never have met without social media and started sharing and building ideas. I keep coming back to the importance of reciprocal mentorship - where the younger generations teach the older ones the value of social media, while the older generation assist young people in treasuring face-to-face conversations. As with anything in life it's about finding the right balance.
AlGonzalezinfo's comment, August 18, 2013 1:06 PM
Absolutely Kenneth, I think I mentioned during our first skype call the work of Juana Bordas on approaching mentorships as alliances with the younger generations where the learning is reciprocal. One of the many lessons I have learned about my hispanic heritage and why I so completely agree. The social web can start relationships like our and then we can use tech and face to face to keep building.

Excellent scoop by Robin Good on a relevant and important article for Content Curators.

Robin Good's curator insight, August 2, 2013 12:56 PM

Here is an interesting research article reporting on the SEO effectiveness of curated content, and of the type of curation that is most effective from this point of view.

Specifically, Virginia Nussey on BruceClay.com, wanted to find out if curated blog content could have the same SEO benefit as traditional blog content. To find out she run a specific test and measured the results.

Here the conclusions she arrived at after runing the test:

"When content curation comes in the form of original content, a website can achieve the benefits of fresh content without threat of negative search engine rankings.

The same ranking potential can be gained from curated content with editorialized curation in significantly less time when compared to a traditional blog post."

Key takeaways:

1. Text should be unique on the Web.

2. Sources linked to should be of high quality.

3. Add value to the collection, for instance through story-telling, new perspective or commentary.

Informative. Instructive. Useful. 8/10

Segunda llave.-Enseñar a no poner "etiquetas". Oscar Wilde

But he says what students learn in the online classes can be used to “test out” of required courses just as those with knowledge of the subject matter can do now.

About 700,000 students in 173 countries have already enrolled in Wharton MOOCs, more than the combined enrollment in Wharton’s traditional MBA and undergraduate programs since the school’s founding in 1881, according to Huesman. Additional courses are in the pipeline, he says.

A Blueprint for the Video Content Marketing Revolution

A Blueprint for the Video Content Marketing Revolution | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

Fueling the fire of the video content marketing revolution is the growing use of mobile devices by Americans. Mobile Internet use is through the roof, with more and more consumers turning to their mobile devices for all kinds of things — to engage with brands and businesses, connect with friends and colleagues, make purchases, seek information, play games and even document their lives.
