SIMULATIONS

This online simulator allows students to explore how plates move on the surface of the Earth. Students are able to manipulate temperature, composition and thickness of the plates. This enables them to discover how to create new mountains, volcanoes and oceans. Students will be engaged in this simulator as they will feel empowered by the ability to create natural disasters.

ACTIVITY:
Students complete a worksheet provided from teachers that include instructions to open this simulator as well as questions related to it. 

This online simulator allows students to build an atom by manipulating the protons, neutrons and electrons. it also allows students to visually see how the elements, charge and mass change after this maniuplation. This simulator will engage students as at the end of the simulation, there is a game to test the students ideas.

ACTIVITY:
Provide students with a periodic table. Give a worksheet listing particular elements and ask for them to buid them using this simulator. Get students to also do the reverse- build an element on the simulator and ask another student to identify what the element is. 

This online simulation engages students through the simple yet detailed virtual imagery. Together with the narrator this simulation makes the quite abstract/difficult to grasp content more interesting and easier to understand. The pause, stop, play functions aid in engaging students as they allow the student to explore the simulation at their own pace. Review questions are provided at the end of each topic.

ACTIVITY:
Students go on this website http://www.wiley.com/college/pratt/0471393878/student/animations/dna_replication/ and follow the instructions to this online simulation. Answers to review questions should be written down in their notebooks. Similarly, students should draw particular diagrams from this simulation into their notebooks. Towards the end of the class, teachers should go over answers and the online simulation to the classs.

This simulator provides students with the opportunity to explore forces at work in a tug of war or pushing a refrigerator, crate or person. This adds purpose and context enhancing student engagement. Students are able to create an applied force in the simulator and see the affects on moving objects. Students are also able to manipulate friction and see how that affects the motion of objects.

Students are provided with a worksheet with instructions and questions relating to this simulator in which they must complete whilst exploring.

Try it again with either the same amount of men on each side or a different amount of men on each side.Hit the “Reset all” button. Click box next to “sum of forces” and “values,” continue putting men on each side.Hit the “Return” button.
