Today, the DoD’s Defense Innovation Unit is announcing not one, not two, but five such drones that have been tested, approved, and are now formally available for government use — including two from formerly consumer-focused drone companies Skydio (based in California) and Parrot (based in France).

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) plans to launch a risk-based airworthiness management system for drones by the end of 2019.

The US Department of the Interior has announced that it will maintain its ban on nonemergency drones as it continues to review the technology for potential threats to national security. The more than 800 drones used by the department are made by Chinese companies like DJI or have Chinese-made parts.
