Remotely Piloted Systems
This is a media curation page for the PIRatE Lab's AARR Program.  We are developing practical, low cost programs to monitor resources in our coastal zone (the land near the ocean and the ocean near the land) with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs aka "drones") overhead and subtidal Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) .  Enjoy!!

An MIT study predicts when artificial intelligence will take over for humans in different occupations.
PIRatE Labs insight:
An interesting piece to provoke discussion.  But almost all of these predictions to date (and those preceding this group) have been wrong.  In particular we underestimate how fast automation and AI replaces "high end" activities such as management and skilled labor.

When a a driverless car crashes, should it be programmed to save the greatest number of people, even if that means passengers don’t make it?
PIRatE Labs insight:
The logic of the programmer vs. the logic of human-control.  This is an interesting thought puzzle.  It is not that we are making a decision, it is that this decision will eventually be hardwired and be "set in stone."
