Pacific Drone Challenge™: 4500 Miles Across the Pacific – Non-Stop and Unmanned

American team "Sabrewing Aircraft" announces its plan to compete against a Japanese team to see who can be the first to fly their unmanned drones across the Pacific.

Two competing teams from the United States and Japan will fly their drones across the Pacific Ocean to test the endurance and capability of their vehicles to fly long distances - unmanned. The event, dubbed the "Pacific Drone Challenge" will pit the technology of an American team - Sabrewing Aircraft Company in the Silicon Valley against the capabilities of a Japanese team - iRobotics of Shinjuku, Japan. Both teams will compete to see who can make the crossing from Japan to the Silicon Valley first.

Ummmm...I think the bigger "announcement to the world"  was a 15 year old from the UK winning a championship in a Middle Eastern Emirate. 

But I guess we have to be U.S. centric.  Oh, and only paying attention to something when our network suddenly decides to televise it.
