If you want to know the future of technology and its impact on society study how younger generations interact with one another today. With the sting of a face palm, you’ll experience a sheer rush of humility as you realize that everything you thought you knew about tech is simply nascent compared to the sophistication of digital natives. No matter how connected you are or how many followers or friends you have online, there’s a sense of artistry mashed together with counter intuitive behavior that just works.
My advice to you is to study it.right.now. Don’t try to make sense oft it? Don’t question it. Don’t try to make it fit into your world. Simply try to understand it. Doing so opens the door to meaningful insights. And, this allows you to make decisions about the future without letting your predispositions or assumptions lead you in fallacious directions.
To help Pew Research Center published a new study that examines teens’ social media privacy management and overall behavior. Why is it important? Well, for starters, social and mobile for teens (akadigital natives) is simply a way of life....

Sir Martin Sorrell acquired his way into the advertising business during the 1980s, first by scooping up small agencies and then by stunning the ad world with takeovers of J. Walter Thompson and Ogilvy & Mather. By the mid-1990s his company, WPP, was a dominant force in advertising, and Sorrell himself saw the future of the business as going digital. In 1996, when the idea that the web could change media and advertising was still hotly debated, Sorrell wrote in Harvard Business Review: “The fact is that there is a reasonable chance that interactive media—including the Web—could transform the way we build brands and communicate them to consumers. And that’s enough to go on.” Almost two decades later, Sorrell is still at the helm of WPP, a global advertising empire that employs 162,000 people in 3,000 offices in 110 countries. Though the influence of digital is now a given, that of social media—along with technology like the DVR and even out-there ideas such as programmable T-shirts and Google Glass—is still debated. Three days after one of advertising’s annual rites—the Super Bowl—Sorrell sat down with HBR’s editor in chief, Adi Ignatius, to talk about the future of advertising, balancing science and art, and why he thinks Facebook and Twitter aren’t really advertising media....

I’ll beg Dr. Barnes to forgive me the editorial liberty I’ve taken with this headline, but that’s my takeaway after finally reading the UMASS Dartmouth Study: The 2014 Fortune 500 and Social Media: LinkedIn Dominates As Use of Newer Tools Explodes.
My interpretation of the results are completely different than those of the researchers who concluded:
“The 2014 Fortune 500 has now fully embraced new communications tools that have taken so many other sectors by storm.”
“These giant corporations are demonstrating an interest in experimenting with new tools.”
“This is a group that now seems comfortable and even excited with its newfound ability to engage its vendors, partners, customers and others in ways that could not have been imagined when most of their corporations began.”...

Much has been written about Facebook’s acquisition of the rapidly growing WhatsApp for $19 billion. What does this say about the future of social media?
... Even now as its competitors grow and its younger users flee to more private and streamlined sites, Facebook’s long shadow can be seen throughout the social sphere; while it may no longer be on the cutting edge of development, it certainly knows how to recognize companies that are and integrate them into its platform.
So, in context with this WhatsApp purchase, what can Facebook’s acquisition history, both of talent and of products, tell us about the future of social media? To begin an in-depth analysis, we highly recommend giving this acquisition timeline tool a look, as it effectively compares the history of acquisitions across the top tech firms. When it comes content marketing for your business, there are a lot of different ways you can go. Blogging is obviously one of the most popular, but there are also eBooks, eNewsletters, podcasts, and more. One popular type of content creation involves video, and while I have only dabbled in it a bit, I think that many businesses and nonprofits could use video effectively if they tried their hand at it.
The other day I talked about using Vimeo as one option, though of course the biggest option for video uploading and sharing continues to be Youtube. But regardless if you use one or both of these services, or even another option, video can be a great way to tell your story and grab attention. And remember, making a video today does not need to involve lots of money or high priced equipment. Yes, you can do really nice productions, but for some videos, it is perfectly acceptable to use webcams or smartphone cams. Here are five different types of video content you can use online to grab and maintain the interest of your audience...
