Japanese architect Kengo Kuma has completed the façade and interior design of a 10-storey hotel near Tokyo’s Skytree Observation Tower. conceived as an ‘art exhibit’, ONE@tokyo is located in Oshiage — an area which combines the historic feeling of the country’s Edo era with a lively sense of Tokyo’s modern metropolis. at ground level, Kuma and his team have installed a dynamic lattice of timber planks that refers to the factories found in the region’s downtown district.

Zuckerberg Explains Facebook's Global Mission

Zuckerberg Explains Facebook's Global Mission | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Speaking to Facebook’s prominent place at the center of news, information, and communication, CEO Mark Zuckerberg laid out his vision for the future of the company on Thursday.

In a nearly 6,000-word declaration, Zuckerberg suggested that Facebook was finally realizing its grand mission to “connect the world.” “For the past decade, Facebook has focused on connecting friends and families,” the young mogul explained.

“With that foundation, our next focus will be developing the social infrastructure for community -- for supporting us, for keeping us safe, for informing us, for civic engagement, and for inclusion of all.”...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

A lot of people are sniffing at Zuck for his inflated goals, but that's what a mission statement is. I like the hopeful vision! He's not trying to build a wall or harm helpless immigrants.

The Opening Lines of the World's Most Famous Books | Daily Infographic | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

They say not to judge a book by its cover, but there’s no saying about judging a book by its first line.

I can usually tell within a few minutes if I’ll enjoy a book. Based on this infographic, it seems that many famous books are good from the start.

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” but did you know the entire first line for “A Tale of Two Cities” is much longer? The first sentence in the book is a whopping 119 words.

On the other hand, “Fahrenheit 451” opens with an easy to remember one-liner: “It was a pleasure to burn.”...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Here are the opening lines of 34 of the world's famous books.

The Sharing Age

The Sharing Age | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Imagine the possibilities of a world in which we are able to make trusted connections between a near-infinite number of people. A world in which transaction costs, time and distance are reduced to almost nil. A world that is instantly available from a smartphone, anywhere, anytime.

This global revolution, enabled by databases, search engines and connectivity, has begun. It’s allowing mankind to break free from the limits of the past. We start doing what we do best: collaborating and sharing, at an unprecedented scale — a significant untapped potential for sharing is unlocked on a whole new level, creating value for all.

Thanks to platforms that connect peers and enable the creation of interpersonal online trust, individuals are suddenly empowered to share goods, knowledge, money, skills, network, content, etc. They regain their ability to contribute more directly to society and the economy, but on a global scale, redefining relationships between economic and social actors along the way.

We are at the dawn of a new era, the sharing age, which impacts all dimensions of our relationships with others....

Go Inside the Work of Salvador Dali With Surreal New Virtual Reality Experience | Co.Create

Go Inside the Work of Salvador Dali With Surreal New Virtual Reality Experience | Co.Create | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Salvador Dali once said, "Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision." Perhaps the artist would've said something similar about virtual reality, which The Dalí Museum is now using to bring his 1935 painting Archeological Reminiscence of Millet's "Angelus" to life.

To help celebrate the opening of its new exhibition "Disney and Dalí: Architects of the Imagination" on January 23rd, which looks at the relationship between the artist and Walt Disney, the museum enlisted agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners to create "Dreams of Dalí" to give viewers a new way to experience his work....

See The Entire Observable Universe Beautifully Rendered On Your Computer Screen | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

What does the entire observable universe look like? Not exactly like this—but it's a pretty (and fascinating) picture. The illustration, based on logarithmic maps from Princeton researchers and images from NASA, shows the universe from a human perspective: The sun is at the center, ringed by planets, galaxies, the cosmic web (the void between solar systems), and invisible plasma from the Big Bang.

Artist Pablo Carlos Budassi put the illustration together armed with Photoshop, recent research... and some weed. He included as many details as possible. "Something I didn't have time to do was to smoothly merge the cosmic web with the last single galaxies that appear," he says. "The rest was relatively easy and only took a couple of nights and about 100 grams of marijuana to do it."...

50 Blog Headers Guaranteed To Draw Readers Into Any Post – Design School

50 Blog Headers Guaranteed To Draw Readers Into Any Post – Design School | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It has been said that designing a blog is easy, a-no brainer. Pick a template from the myriads out there all readily available on any platform and you’ll be good to go, right?

But popping images and text into an existing template will likely translate into another generic looking blog. And in today’s growing blogging industry, being just another sheep in the herd won’t do much for your traffic. Differentiating your blog from others in the same niche by creating a blog designed with a bit more character will turn you into the sheep they’ll remember.

Creating a stunning blog does not necessarily mean building your own layout from scratch. You can take advantage of a template, let it do most of the heavy lifting, and pair it with a thoughtfully designed header to start engaging your target audience. Use them to set the mood and visually communicate what your blog is all about. They don’t have to be terribly complex, just tailored to fit your blog beautifully. Below, we showcase 50 awesome blogs with headers that make great first impressions and feature great content....
