Facebook ads can get tricky because there’s a ton of variables on each and every campaign. It doesn’t help that Facebook’s constantly rolling out more updates and improvements. The good news is that many of these new Facebook ad types are game changers if you know what you’re doing and how to use them each properly. In this article, I’m going to unveil five options that can drastically improve the ROI you’re seeing. I’ll even show you how to combine several of these techniques, using them together to add new layers of context to predict exactly what your customers want to see (and when they want to see it)....

In January 2017, Small Business Trends released the results of a survey of over twenty-six-hundred small business owners, revealing that sixty-two percent of them believe Facebook ads are ineffective. With complaints of little-to-no ROI, these entrepreneurs say they will not use Facebook advertising again. Some experts, however, challenge this viewpoint, saying that properly targeted Facebook ads do indeed, provide results. "When businesses don't see the results they hope for, it's usually because they haven't done enough testing on their ad copy, visuals, and the ideal combination of information to target the right audience," says Vitruvian Digital Advertising Founder, Kristie McDonald. Jeanine Blackwell, Founder of The Launch Lab agrees, saying that marketers aren't asking themselves the right questions to determine an effective target market for their ad campaigns. "The problem is that most advertisers only use the simplest of criteria to let Facebook know who they want to see their ads, such as gender, age, and income," says Blackwell. "When you couple this information with more insights on the behaviors and unique interests of your audience, you can deliver your ads only to people likely to be interested in what you offer." Both experts agree that a testing budget as small as five or ten dollars a day, focusing on different mixes, can tell you what you need to know before you begin to invest larger amounts in your campaign....

"Native" advertising is expected to drive 74% of all US display ad revenue by 2021, up from a 56% share in 2016, but Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian isn't a fan. Native advertising is paid content that fits a specific publication's style and editorial guidelines. The idea is that unlike standard banner ads — which users can become blind to and easily overlook — people are more likely to engage with content that looks like the rest of the content on a site. Speaking at a small press conference at Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal last week, Ohanian described native advertising as something "nobody actually reads but everyone has just bought into." Marketers have been fooled into thinking people are reading their native ads, when instead, Ohanian believes they've simply been tricked by "Facebook arbitrage."...

It might be easy to assume that the shorter the video ad, the better the completion rate. But maybe things change when it’s on a social platform. According to Q2 data, video ads that were between 30 and 60 seconds long fared better than those of less than 30 seconds on Facebook. During Q2 2016, Kinetic Social tracked data based on 2 billion social ad impressions, including ad spending for all ad types on Facebook, across both desktop and mobile channels. Kinetic Social is a programmatic social media platform that delivers paid social ads, and more than 90% of its clients are US-based. According to the data, almost half (or 44%) of 30- to 60-second video ads on Facebook were viewed to completion. Meanwhile, those that ran 30 seconds or less saw a 26% completion rate. Interestingly, 2-minute or longer video ads had the second-best completion rate of 31%....

The marketing world is buzzing about P&G’s announcement last month that they’re moving away from Facebook ads that target specific consumers. As CMO Marc Pritchard described the move, “We targeted too much, and we went too narrow. And now we’re looking at: What is the best way to get the most reach but also the right precision.” Coming from the world’s biggest ad buyer, this seems to question the steady march toward hyper-targeting we’ve seen the last few years, particularly for big brands....

My fan page has over 900,000 fans. And you know what I wish I never had 900,000 fans.
The reason I have them is because I bought them through Facebook ads.
I spent roughly $400,000 on Facebook ads for fan page growth and post boosting. When I was spending money on Facebook at one point I was getting well over 100,000 visitors a month.

Former Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger believes that Facebook sucked up nearly £20 million ($27 million) of the newspaper's digital advertising revenue last year.
Rusbridger, now principal of Lady Margaret Hall college at Oxford University, said The Guardian forecast online revenues of £100 million ($132 million) before he left in May last year.
In the end, the newspaper's digital turnover was £81.9 million ($108 million), which was down 2.3% on 2014.
Speaking at the FT Weekend Live Festival in London on Saturday, Rusbridger said The Guardian's prediction never materialised "because it all went to Facebook."
A Guardian spokeswoman declined to comment. At the time it published its annual report in July, sources at the newspaper blamed online giants including Google and Facebook for hoovering up ad spend....

So, what does optimized Facebook advertising actually look like? If you're looking for some great examples, you've come to the right place. In this post, we'll quickly go over the two overarching formats for Facebook ads: right-hand column ads and News Feed ads. Then, we'll show you 8 different types of Facebook ads, each including real-life examples -- along with some insights into why that ad is so successful.
Before we get to these examples, let's chat for a second about the four components of a good Facebook ad (or any ad, really) regardless of its type. Remember, people are on Facebook to stay up to date on their social lives, not necessarily check out your products. This is why keeping these four things in mind is important for any Facebook ad you make....
